I just saw somewhere the other day. It was either on Facebook or at a restaurant in London. So last night I tried a daikon radish steaks. I got the Japanese recipe from YouTube. The radish pucks get scored on top into grid, which gives a nice presentation and then precooked in boiling water or veggie stock before pan-searing them to a beautiful golden colour on both sides. I will definitely makes these again. Absolutely delicious!

Sounds amazing! Daikon radish is my favorite veggie to eat raw and dip, but I always hesitate to buy it because I only see such big ones.So last night I tried a daikon radish steaks. I'll have to look this up--I'm thinking like the watermelon "steaks"?
Why do they call them ‘steaks’???
large acorn squash halved and placed upside down on a cookie sheet - same done to a large sweet potato, a beet and 3 yellow potatoes - all baked in the oven - an Apple Sage Sausage w/colmans mustard each - oatmeal cookies for dessert

I love roast vegetables and always deglaze with balsamic vinegar just before serving.
I actually used malt vinegar on the potatoes and some brown sugar in the squash. Tried to avoid butter however my honey wanted some garlic butter so he dumped a teaspoon on one of my potatoes grrrr .
Balsamic sounds like a great idea also.

As for why they are called steaks, as per Merriam-Webster dictionary.
d: a thick slice or piece of a non-meat food especially when prepared or served in the manner of a beef steak
eg. tofu/portobello steaks or a cauliflower steak
Yeah, I’ve noticed that, but why call veg after animals!!! So, I could call my veg mix, ‘lamb stew’, yikes…You can call them either medallions or simply sauteed daikon.
Many people still call plant based food 'chicken', 'beef', 'ham,' 'steak' etc. I think that it's a question of what you find to be acceptable.
