Supper/Dinner Time! What's on the menu ?

I'm going to have barbecued tofu, cornbread from the freezer and steamed broccoli. I got more than 10 pounds of fresh tofu from my friend in Maine yesterday. There is a place 5 minutes from her house that makes it. I'm going to freeze most of it.

She also picked me up a 50-pound bag of King Arthur artisan flour. It's a pretty good deal, still $39.99 for the bag. I'm excited to make bread and scones with it. And I'll share some of the flour with my mom :)

My friend and I met halfway from each of our homes to make the exchange. We had a very nice visit. We both packed a lunch and were able to sit at a picnic table at a rest stop and hang out for a few hours.

How are you going to store the flour? Needing special bins for food keeps me from buying too much
Thankfully my Aldi has organic tofu for $1.59, I hate it after freezing!
Know anyone to split a 12 lb box of soy curls? That's such a great deal!

I put the flour in five large Rubbermaid containers and store them in a closet. Also, I will be giving my mom a good 10 pounds, so it shouldn't be an issue. It's one ingredient I use it a lot, so there won't be a problem with it expiring. I keep soy curls in the fridge. I usually order four bags at a time.

Flour only lasts for 6 months unless you keep it in the freezer.

used up our leftover "smeat" from the burritos and potatoes by having breakfast for dinner - added the meat to a can of baked/breakfast beans and then sauted onion, garlic, jalapeno, mushrooms, zucchini with the potatoes

It was far too hot to cook until after 7pm so it was a late dinner. I made a Madras style soya curl & sweet potato
curry served with wholegrain rice and sliced bananas.

Fresh fruit; raisins, strawberries and white peaches.

Quite some time ago, the house where I lived had an enclosed-but-unheated back porch. Early each fall, I bought a 40 (or 50?) lb bag of rolled oats or rolled rye and kept it there. I got a bulk purchase discount- but it was also nice to have a supply of a major staple food, and I saved time as well as money.

I'm lucky to find a good Indian brand of flour-both ap and bread, for $2.99 for 5 lbs
I looked into grain mills and wheat berries--but they're more expensive. I don't get it, thought that would be so much cheaper!
So much prepping takes too much up front costs!
Firehouse Subs sells their 5 gallon food grade buckets with lids for $5, and the money goes towards the firefighters fund

very simple last night - my honey did his own thing so I did two miso tofu burgers with a bit of Korean BBQ sauce and ate them plain - then a few udon noodles with oelek on them

I did think of putting some in the freezer :). With all the bread-making of late, I'm sure I'll use it up in time.

Tonight I'm having BBQ tofu, sautéed garlic scapes, steamed broccoli and Brussels sprouts and cornbread from the freezer. The scapes were delicious. I sautéed them in a little olive oil, salt and pepper and sprinkled fresh lemon juice over them.BBQ fofu.jpg

Did you foraged the garlic scapes or buy them? My produce market usually has them about this time, but I didn't see them this year
That all looks delicious!

Thank you. My friend in Maine brought them for me. She got them from her garden. They were delicious! Such a treat. They went well with the rest of the dinner.
