I was so surprised to see it on the new books shelf! It is a 2 week rather than 3 week checkout. My sister said she had to get on a wait list too! I guess I got lucky!

The tenant was a lot better than the reviews would give it. Not the best. Not the worst. I enjoyed it.
The one by John Marrs. I'm not sure if I watched the show that was based off this book few years ago. I might have, but if I did I don't remember it.

I just finished "Oryx and Crake" which is book one in a dystopian trilogy by Margaret Atwood called The MaddAdam trilogy. I have to admit this book was a bit of a struggle for me as I didn't really get into it until near the end. It is a horrifying vision of a world where corporations develop bioengineered products, including crossing animal species. The corporations have their own cities called Compounds and only the most gifted scientists are in residence. The science is very disturbing and a plague is released on the world. I will wait a bit before looking for book two.

^ I have read a few Margaret Atwood books, but I can't remember that one.

I started an autobiography yesterday of Paul Sinha. I got a signed copy when I went to one of his gigs. He is quite well known in the UK as he is on a quizzing game show but I doubt most people on here would have heard of him.

Yeah Margaret Atwood foretold a lot of terrifying current events. This book takes the genetic engineering into really monstrous territory.

I have been saying for years that everything that is happening is Margaret's fault... lol .... seriously, everyone talks about creating reality by picturing things... well, she has pictured so much dystopia that it is coming into reality.... I know, I know, so many other authors (King etc) have written worse however she seems to have a particular ability to either predict or create....

My local library system has a few of Margaret Atwood's books, and I often see them since they're in the sci-fi/fantasy section (my favorite section). But sometimes that genre is too dark to make for pleasurable reading (IMHO). Don't get me wrong- I know it's important to be on the alert for possible destructive social trends, and Atwood is very good at depicting possible dystopias ("The Handmaid's Tale" being a famous example). But sometimes I'm just in the mood for a feel-good story.

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm reading (again) Our Women on the Ground, a collection of accounts from female journalists in the Middle East. It started more upbeat, with one that talked about solidarity between women in Iraq, and how they found life amidst the chaos by going for joy rides and so on, but many of the others seem to feature a lot of war, death, family separation and sexism. It's nice to learn about the region, but my next book will need to be less depressing.

Regretting you by Colleen Hoover. TBH, I am almost regretting this check out at 50 pages in. Bored.
It was blah, ok I guess. I got through it. There is a movie about it coming out.

Next a new one by Lisa Jewell.

I read a sci-fi/dystopian novel called "The Last Day" by Andrew Hunter Murray. He is a well-known British writer and comedian and this is his debut novel. A catastrophic event in space causes the Earth to stop rotating. It takes a few years, called the Slow, then it stops entirely. Chaos happens of course and Britain is the last place on Earth for survivors. Really good book! Political intrigue, murder and mayhem and a twist at the end.
