Literature What are you currently reading?

I have discovered another "cozy mystery" author by browsing the shelves at the library. This one is called "A Doomful of Sugar" and is the first in a new series by Catherine Bruns. She has a long list of books that have a food oriented titles. This one is about a maple syrup producer and at the end of the book there are several recipes. Several of these types of books seem to have a food theme! This was a good murder mystery with interesting characters and a twist at the end. Good fun! I will read more of this author's books when I want a quick easy read!

I read "A World of Curiosities" by Louise Penny. It is part of the Inspector Gamache series. I have read several and really enjoy them. This one was really good with a lot of emotional drama for our heroes. It has an evil serial killer who escapes from prison to terrorize the quirky inhabitants of Three Pines.

the characters in Louise Penny books are so well written (and Canadian for the most part) that I feel like I know them personally

Today I finished "Mind Games" by Nora Roberts. It was really good! It is about a woman who is psychic and has a "mind link" with the serial killer who murdered her parents. A compelling psychological drama and some romance too.

We used to love be here, 5/5. Wow. I had no idea what to expect. I loved it. It was like a thriller, horror and some sci-fi. It was a short, quick read.

I finished "The Cabinet of Curiosities" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It is another in the Agent Pendergast series. This is an older one published in 2002. This is a long (662 pages) complicated thriller with lots of detail and is very creepy. An excavation in NYC discovers the bodies of over 30 people that were murdered over 100 years ago. So begins a terrifying investigation as a copy-cat killer emerges.

Me again! Today I read a cozy mystery by Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown, the series with the animals that talk to one another and help solve crimes. "The Big Cat Nap." Really fun read. This one had a lot of car related stuff such as drag racing as well as the farming stuff. Of course there was murder. I will get more of these as there are a lot of them.

I read "Service Model" by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think it came up on one of my suggested lists. It is a dystopian, social commentary sci-fi novel with a robot as the main character. It is full of humor and satire. I thoroughly enjoyed it! This author has a long list of books and I will be looking for more to read.

none of Adrian's book that I put on Hold came in yet, so I went searching for more and found Ogres - it is a novella - wow, he has a Stephen King kinda mind... I found it compelling... thank you for recommending him - I also have Firewalkers which I will read later - I also skipped through a Tessa Bailey book, I normally like her books however this romance was based on the false premise that step children (from two different mothers and fathers) should not get together... it was annoying and silly

I started long Bright River book. I watched one episode of the show a little while ago and I did not realize that it was a book so I'm reading the book first before I finish the show.

I read another book today. It was one I had to wait for that had come up on one of my suggestion lists. It is "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro who has won a Nobel prize and had a couple of his novels made into movies. This is the story of Klara, who is an Artificial Friend or AF as they are called. Since the AF's are solar powered, she pretty much worships the Sun. She is sold to a single woman and her young teen daughter to be her companion. It is told in Klara's voice. A fascinating read that tugs at your emotions about family, relationships, and love.

I just finished Nora Roberts latest novel called "Hidden Nature." It was a really good thriller with psycho serial killers (some stuff was really disturbing) . It is about a woman Natural Resources police officer and her family. I didn't know this branch of law enforcement existed so that was interesting. There is romance too, of course. Good read!
