Today I read "Hidden in Smoke" by Lee Goldberg. Another I picked up browsing. I don't know how I have not read books by this author, though I might have but don't remember them cause I read so many. He is the creator of Monk and has many novels and TV shows in his resume. This book is a murder mystery and arson investigation story teaming up the LAPD and LAFD investigators in a fast paced quick read. Good characters, some humor and fun read. Definitely will look for more books by Mr Goldberg!

I have it also and have only read the first few pages, so far, as it now qualifies as a thriller that I am no longer interested in reading... we'll see - please do let me know what you think and if there is enough joy in it to make it worthwhile spending my time on.

last night I finished the Colleen Hoover book I was reading "Maybe Someday" which is the first in a series of 3 and I loved it - if you know anyone who is deaf or loves music you will enjoy this romance with many twists

Today I finished "Buzz Kill" by J. Robert Lennon. I picked this one up in the new books section. It took me several days to read it even though it isn't that big a book. It just didn't "grab me" and compel me to read it. It has so much going on! The main characters are a PI team of women who are twins. One does the field work and the other the more "tame" stuff as she has a teenage daughter. I do like the characters but there were so many plots going on. There's a suspected cold case murder, a deadly new drug on the streets, government conspiracy and Jan. 6th revolutionaries as well as teenage drama and family discord. It is very contemporary though. I will give it 3 stars.

I didn't really like it and just skipped the end to see what the twist was.

I finished The testaments today. I think that Hulu is doing that as a follow up.
Next another Freida book.

I finished this in one day as it was so compelling I just didn't stop reading - I have to admit that because of the 3 POVs I sometimes had to stop and think about who it was I was reading about. I have a few more of Evie Woods books on Hold. Currently reading Mud Vein which is a very strange book, also compelling.

I am reading another of Evie Woods - The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris - it is excellent and had me engaged from the first page.

I read "Service Model" by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think it came up on one of my suggested lists. It is a dystopian, social commentary sci-fi novel with a robot as the main character. It is full of humor and satire. I thoroughly enjoyed it! This author has a long list of books and I will be looking for more to read.

I just finished "Defending Jacob" by William Landay. If you like tense family drama, a horrifying murder, and courtroom drama, this is it. This is a really good book and one of those "can't put it down" reads. ADA Andy Barber's 14 year old son is accused of brutally stabbing a classmate to death. He couldn't have done it, his family is sure, but Andy has a secret. His grandfather was a gangster and his father is in prison for murder. A question is asked... is there such thing as a "murder gene"? This is an older book, the events take place in 2007 to 2008 so the tech is a bit dated but it doesn't really hurt the story any. A really compelling read and a twist you don't see coming.

This was super popular, Butcher and blackbird.

I am in the middle of reading this.... I love it although it is not for the faint of heart on many topics... there are a lot of trigger warnings at the start of the book. Thank you for the recommendation @SuicideBlonde - I have put the next one on Hold.

I just finished "Confessions of an Innocent Man" by David R. Dow. This is a very "heavy" and disturbing first novel by a Professor at the University of Houston Law Center. He is the founder of the Texas Innocent Network and has represented more than one hundred death row inmates in their appeals. Rafael is our story-teller, a 38 year old Mexican/American restaurant owner who meets and marries a very wealthy philanthropist white woman who is 15 years older than him. When she is brutally murdered, he is the only suspect and is quickly convicted and sentenced to death. This is in Texas. He describes death row and there is a lot of legal information and a lot about the injustice in the "justice" system. And yes he is indeed innocent but it doesn't matter. Really compelling read.
