Literature What are you currently reading?

I started two fiction books, but lost interest so I started a new nonfiction one. Act 3 - The Art of Growing Older. I'm going to be 50 next year!

At last, the life you want . . . post 50.

We’re living longer, in better health, with higher expectations than any generation in human history. With an extra adult chapter to look forward to, what will you do? Who else could you be? How will you evolve the best plan for your life between 50 and 80?

Judy and Adrian Reith have decades of experience in helping people see hidden possibilities, clarify their goals and achieve life-changing results. In Act 3 they suggest practical steps to make your life more fulfilling as you age. From the ground up this book will help you identify and strengthen the four roots you’ll need for a happy and successful third act. It illustrates how your attitude, purpose, relationships and values are keystones to a life without regret.

Act 3 gives tools and tips to help you focus on what matters, with chapters on Work, Home, Money, Health, Play, the World and Friends. You’ll be inspired by original stories of those who have changed their lives after 50 and be able to re-imagine your future, and so get the life you want . . . at last.

I just finished "A Spell For Chameleon", by Piers Anthony. It's the first (publication date 1977!!) in his long series of humorous fantasies about Xanth. I've already returned it to the library after only having borrowed it this week. I can see why there are criticisms about sexism in these books.
One of the main female characters is a sort of shapeshifter, whose appearance and intelligence vary back and forth over time- between 'stunningly beautiful / very dimwitted' and 'quite unattractive but above average intelligence'.

I have read several Xanth novels and really enjoyed them. It's been years though. I am sure I read that one back in the 80's!

I read "Cold as Hell" by Kelly Armstrong which is the latest in the Haven's Rock series. I waited a long time for this book and it did not disappoint. Ms. Armstrong is an excellent writer! More murder and drama in the sanctuary community in the Yukon wilderness.
I need to get the next book in another of her series soon! She writes occult novels as well as murder mysteries and has several series.

I thought the title sounded familiar. That book is on the shelf of new acquisitions at my library!

read another Emily Henry book - Funny Story - I just love her books as the characters are so diverse emotionally and characteristically - there is a fair amount of nookie so maybe not for everyone if that offends you - she has a new one coming out and already the wait is months long

still reading Dean Koontz latest as it is a real book and I only read it in the bathroom so it is taking awhile LOL - so bizarre, the book that is

mostly by accident I've been rereading a lot of novels. I'll pick them up and get to about page 100 and realize that I've read it before but can't remember the details so might as well finish it.

the library book I'm reading now is Her Royal Spyness. its the first book in the series and I read it years ago. but never got around to the other books in the series. Maybe this time I will. Anyway it's a fun Elizabethan detective murder mystery. The reluctant or accidental detective is a royal. But minor and broke.

On my Kindle I'm rereading Tempests and Slaughter. It's by Tamora Pierce. When I was looking thru Libby for a fantasy that was immediately available . it came up and I hadn't thought I read it. However I figured it out that I read it by page 10. It fun and I like Pierce's novels (probably have read almost all of them) so I'm going to finish it. It's also the first book in a series - and I can't remember if I read that series or not so I may be able to read them too.

I've been mostly picking books I've read before for my audio books. I found almost all the Masie Dobbs novels are available as audiobooks. I'm already on Book 3.

Finished "Onyx Storm" by Rebecca Yarros. This is the third book in the Empyrean Series. I had to wait a long time for this book! It is a romantasy with an epic battle between good and evil fought with dragons bonded to their riders. There are also steamy loves scenes with our young heroes, Violet and Xaden. It is exciting and fun to read.

I have been listening to the Maise Dobbs novels - one after another.

each book uses a different narrator. I think that is unusual and weird. Usually a novelst picks one and uses them for the whole series.
I just googled it and according to the author - she has nothing to do with hiring narrators. The publisher takes care of that.

There is also a lot of hints that there is something supernatural about Marie's abilities. But the hints never turn into anything. I'll have to wait till I'm closer to the newer books but I think even the hints stop.

just put it on hold. I 've read the first two books and did not like them that much. but I want to see what happens. Plus I don't have any books waiting for me right now.
Well for me, the best part of this series is the dragons! I just skim over the romance stuff. LOL This book wasn't that great but I like the battles and the evil ones are pretty cool.
