Trader Joe's

My favorite thing to do is marinate in liquid smoke, brown sugar & thyme water and simmer for reubens
I have rye bread and a small can of sauerkraut--seems a good idea!

I like the sound of bac'n bits

Canada is trying to entice either Aldi or Trader Joe's to come to open up stores here - if you had a preference, which would it be?

For me it would be Aldi--but--Aldi does seem to vary regionally, in both what is regularly stocked, and the quality of produce. I like that they're limited with all the regular things I need. We have good choices and prices of fresh organics (and medjool dates!), canned and dried beans and lentils, grains, quinoa, large selection of frozen veg, tofu, non dairy milks, best pasta and sauces, even breads and nuts and dried fruit

I've never been to an Aldis. I guess they are not West Coast.

There are 103 in CA. In Southern California there is virtually one in every big town.

I would choose Trader Joe over Aldi, although they're not all the same. The one in Danbury was amazing but the one I have near me now, since I moved, is awful.

Aldi is good though. We have a new one but I haven't been back there in several months...probably a year even.

I was wrong, Trader Joe's does not seem to be in the running - Aldi is likely number one and Lidl number 2 - here is the whole list that are possibilites:

  • From France: Les Mousquetaires
  • From Germany: Aldi, Lidl, Edeka Group, and Rewe Group
  • From Netherlands: X5 Retail Group
  • From Norway: Reitangruppen
  • From Portugal: Jerónimo Martins
  • From Spain: Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentación, and Mercadona
  • From Turkey: BIM Birlesik Magazalar
  • From the U.S.: Holding

I just had this. It was really good. Apparently, Costco carries something similar and I read a review by someone who says both are very good but Costco is better. I don't think I'll be trying the Costco one, however because it has more ingredients in it that I don't think I would like. I would 100% by the Trader Joe one again.

For those who believe in animal welfare, please boycott TJ's until they cease to sell Perdue's Petaluma poultry:

Trader Joe’s continues to sell criminally abused chickens from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry in their own packaging despite thousands of social media comments, emails, phone calls, letters, and store protests asking them to cut ties.

Direct Action Everywhere investigations have revealed widespread cruelty, neglect, and disease at Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry facilities, including birds who are so sick and injured they are unable to walk to food or water, birds with open wounds, and birds who entered the slaughterhouse scalder while still conscious and were boiled alive.

These findings have been reported to authorities and to Trader Joe’s but they have failed to take action to stop this abuse. Instead, investigator and animal rescuer Zoe Rosenberg is facing 5 years in prison for rescuing four chickens from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. Her trial starts May 16th.

I just got my groceries and left.

I've often thought that if a bag has a company's name on it - they should be paying you. Like a billboard or a sign on a bus.

I've got a few Trader Joe bags I got for free. I'm not sure but I dont' think I. have ever bought a bag. I have that same bag - but it's full size that I got for free at a promotion for a start-up.

I think at trader joes there was a limit like three or four to a customer so I guess you could keep one and sell the rest for a tidy. profit. but still that line was pretty long - and the people in the front must have gotten there pretty early.

I've actually seen a pic of the lines for that at TJ's and they looked so much like clickbait
Have you seen what TJ products can cost at Amazon or eBay? It's a crazy markup! So is Aldi specialty stuff. If I wasn't such an anti-capitalist I'd buy them up and make a profit myself, but I hate that people do that :dismay:
