Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

He is right as not all of the population will get vaccinated. Moreover, scientists think that covid virus will be similar to the flu and will reoccur during the winter months.
I bet I won't be vaccinated for ages!

I meant to ask why was that doctor you know saying the Sanofi vaccine is better?

I've just registered on the town council's covid vaccination scheme. I stated that I wanted it ASAP !o_O

However, they state that as yet there is no immediate plan (due to logistics) to roll out the vaccine.
Logistics = red tape and endless discussions with the anti vaxin groups.

This is second hand information. The doctor said that the French vaccine (available end 2021) will be better suited (superior) to combat the virus compared to the Oxford and Pfizer one. I would gather that it's on the basis that it's made in France. They think that everything 'made in France' is better compared to the rest of the world.

I heard more anti vaccine debates on the radio yesterday whilst I was driving over to the radiologist's. They are freaking out most of the population and have the most ridiculous theories; i.e. that the substance is poisonous, they don't know what it contains and you may die etc, etc.

When I got home, a pal called and she went on to say that all the scientists over here say that the vaccine is dangerous and it was rushed. She went on to say that she wouldn't have it.

I think that I annoyed her with my response (that she was repeating the anti vacin statements on FB) but it's a bit overwhelming to hear these statements several times a day.

It's mind boggling why they don't get the Army to step in and set up vaccination centres i.e. schools, town halls etc 24/24. They have great logistics including doctors and nurses.

It's funny but I haven't read much anti-vaccine stuff at all online here. It seems like most people want to be vaccinated asap.

That is also the impression that I get. However, over here that anti vaxin groups are very vocal. I have no idea why and may look into it.

The only person that I know that wants the vaccine is my friend in the Luberon plus all of the doctors that I know. All my other friends and people that I've spoken with, refuse to get the jab. They all say that they want to wait and see how it will react in other people first. That is a typical mode of thinking over here.

On a brighter note, that means that I may get bumped up to the top of the queue to get the vaccine. :D

I like Sanofi but only because I am familiar with them as I used to purchase the flu vaccine from them when I was working at the health department. So I feel like they are reputable and good. Of course, that’s a silly reason lol. We also got other vaccines from Merck and Glaxo Smith Kline. It’s simply familiarity and that’s really no basis to form a judgment that they are better.

I have several friends/former coworkers who have received the vaccine already. That is more of a comfort to me, knowing they are doing well with no ill effects. Of course we will have to wait to see if the efficacy is good I feel confident that it will be.

I have to admit I’m glad to be getting the vaccine later and getting to see how it goes first. I don’t view that as anti-vax. It’s just being cautious, as I would be with any medication or medical procedure. Look at all the prescription drugs that turn out to have risks that only become evident after many years of their use. Being cautious is reasonable.

I associate the term, “anti-vax,” with people who advocate against vaccinations. They encourage other people to opt out of being vaccinated, or not to vaccinate their children. They’re activists.

I wouldn’t even call someone who opts out of being vaccinated, “anti-vax.” They could be making that choice for personal reasons and they might believe that vaccines are an acceptable option for other people.

In the UK reported covid deaths have now surpassed the dizzy heights of more than 1000 in the last 24 hours.

I haven't yet been offered the jab but my wife will receive hers this coming Friday. It really is beyond me that apparently some people will refuse the opportunity of protecting themselves and especially those around them.

If this is accurate, the US saw over 4,000 COVID deaths today, 562 in CA alone.

I haven't been to a grocery store since Dec 22nd, or any store other than the local corner store for lottery tickets. Today is the day to venture out and I am not looking forward to it as it is the coldest day in a long time (-8 C, 17 F) and windy so standing in lines won't be fun. On the other hand, maybe there will less people out there. 🙏

If I can get everything done today then I won't have to venture out again for another couple of weeks.

Today is day 14 since getting together for Christmas! No one is sick. 😊 Hopefully we stay that way.
I feel like if I get it now it won’t be from Christmas. I was at that garden center on12/30 where the cashier had a coughing fit for 3 full minutes. She removed her mask and wiped her mouth with her bare hands and continued coughing into her hands. We were far enough away but looked on in horror lol. All my daughter and I could see was each other’s eyes over our masks...we were wide eyed as could be. It was kind of funny lol. We ran to the back of the store and checked out there. A few more days and I should be clear from that possible exposure. The poor woman could have emphysema or some other lung issue. Maybe she is/was a smoker. But we always assume covid in today’s climate. It’s sad.

Reminds me of a sort of funny story. Back in April, before masks were being recommended, I was walking my sister's dog and met her next-door neighbor walking her dog. She said that she had noticed my car parked in front of my sister's house for months and was wondering what was up.
I told her I had been sick.
She looked horrified and ran away.
After a few seconds, I realized what was going on.
i had to yell at her receding back, "Hey lady! it was just cancer!"

The huge rise in the number of deaths seems like it's due to the new strain plus all the socialising during the Christmas period.
Scary times !

''One in 50 people in England (one in 30 in London) now have the virus, according to the latest official figures, with some NHS trusts in London
and the South East at risk of being overwhelmed.''

Same here. And now I just saw on the news that the U.S. may have its own variant, but I will have to read up on that to see what's what. Yesterday my state had its highest death tally since May. :(

My husband had his NHS trace app off on his phone "sigh" but it is on it now. It says he has to isolate for 6 days as he has been in contact with someone with Covid. I woke up one day this week feeling like I had a cold. I mentioned it in here so I will read back and check the day.

He spoke to his manager and apparently two men at my husband's work are very ill with Covid. He hadn't seen them though so it wasn't them he had contact with. I suppose it could have been a random person he was close to on London Underground. He doesn't have any symptoms at all.
