US Politics 2026

I think going after Trump is only going to make the MAGA crowd idolize him more and make him a martyr. I basically want to see change for the marginalized/persecuted groups, fixing the economy and mending our relations with former allies.

Of course this may not be possible for at least two more years. I'm fairly new to politics so it's a bit overwhelming as to how everything works. But doing damage control would be nice.

I think the strategy of AIPAC and the rest of the Democratic Party's establishment right now is to sacrifice Chuck Schumer and tell people "Hey, see, we are soo progressive, we are now ready to give the black guy a chance"

Thank you, MeidasTouch and others for not letting up ...

That seems like a fair point, if he can explain why they met I’d like to give Jeffries a chance - Pelosi must have seen something in him…
She was able to manage the house and get things Done! We as Outsiders haven’t a clue How things Really work in Washington…
I am Definitely against AIPAC as well as All of the other Big money Super PACS… But, until They pass some legislation getting Rid of them it looks like that is for the Most part how the game is Played! There are a few people who got elected without any of that kind of money, but the Playing Field needs to be Even! Hopefully there will be enough Will to get some kind legislation passed that would Change how Much of the way elections are run… Not just the money, but the AI videos, the AI robo-calls, and the possibility to Lie - Just because it’s one’s First Amendment Right to do so! WTF!?!
When I heard one of the pundits saying that, I couldn’t believe it! In the case of running for office that just Doesn’t seem right!

Texas is the largest beef producing state in the country. As ridiculous as it sounds, that would matter a lot to many people there.

True, and unfortunately, that is why he had to post some pictures of himself eating meat to refute that claim. But I think he really wants to be vegetarian, but the cultural pressure and attacks won't allow it. He has made some positive comments about plant-based diets in the past and mentioned in one of his previous political campaigns that it would be meat-free, meaning no meat at any of his campaign events. Hopefully, he can return to a meat-free diet, now that he's in for at least 6 years as U.S. Senator.

I said the democrats ought to consider focusing on AI and apparently that possibility is the reason for the stock market fall. A weird situation if stock markets fall in reaction to the news that companies might focus on AI safety. This would seem not to be good a look for capitalism or the current version of it.

They should definitely hold people accountable for their crimes, but for the next two years, Trump can just pardon them. So, prosecuting them now may be a technical win, but it won't have the desired outcome. (Throwing them in prison for a long time)

On the other hand, in two years, if a Republican ** is elected president, they will completely escape consequences.

** I have no faith in the Democrats producing a viable presidential candidate.

Jeffries can't be trusted. He must understand that meeting with Kushner, at the very least, is bad optics, but he doesn't care, and that says a lot.

There's a theory that Trump has always been a bad choice for the Republicans - according to this theory Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris were fairly weak candidates, not liked, not popular, 2024 democrats have inflation and cost of living running against them.

In other words Republicans would have won in 2016 and 2024 anyway, and maybe in 2020 also.

Thanks, I didn't realize corruption was a top issue. That's good news.

I looked at a range of surveys and it looks like cost of living and corruption were the top two issue this time.

The reason I say it's good news is that this can be used against the Republicans in 2028 to some extent I think in advertising ahead of those elections.

My son and I just came back from voting. The trash bins at the door were FULL of the flyers endorsing democrats!
I do miss the days when I'd research candidates from both sides before making a decision. Now it's down to which one deserves the wood chipper!
I just filled up my recycling bin with all the postcards, pages, and other miscellaneous political adds.
Today I checked my mailbox and there was nothing there.
Feeling good about this election
only sorry that the billionaires tax didn't pass.
Supposedly it wasn't written very well.
So better luck next time

Yes, affordability should be an important first step, and put every single Repugnican congressperson and senator on the spot who votes against it.

I think one of the first things they also should do right now is to get that stupid Iran war wrapped up.

And yes, impeaching Hegseth is a great first step, although Dump will likely replace him with the next incompetent toady...
Impeachment of Dump himself will likely again not fly, as there will be no 66 senators voting to convict him. Hegseth might be a different story.
Agree the stupid war and on the impeachment issue. I don't think enough Repugs would go for dumping rump, and all it will do is frustrate voters who want politicians to actually do something to improve their lives and maybe actually govern the way they should. I think voters are fed up with the inaction of government in general.

I would like nothing better than to see rump in prison, but that vile person finds more ways to skate, and it's infuriating. Hegseth needs to go, that's for sure, but yes, because the Dems will still have to deal with rump, I'm not sure what the answer is in that regard.

I do worry that rump will be veto-happy with anything that comes from the Dems. They really need some of the Repugs (maybe the few who were quietly never fans of rump) to grow a spine and vote by issue, rather than party, but I fear it will be difficult to actually override a veto from rump. The House would need something like 290 votes and the Senate 67, I think. That would be refreshing, though, if it did happen. Just undoing all the damage from this idiot will take some time.

I also agree on getting rid of Schumer.
