Literature What are you currently reading?

I read another Nora Roberts, "Legacy". I liked this one a lot. It has the predictable romance plus lots of family drama. There is also a stalker/serial killer. Good read and I read it fast.

strangely enough I can only get the audio version - none of my libraries have it as an ebook - very weird

I am reading Kate Fagan's "All the Colors Came Out" - it is a real book so I am reading it in the bathroom LOL - I so enjoy her writing, this about her and her father and their relationship - so good so far.

I just finished "Fever Beach" Carl Hiaasen's new book. It is hilarious social commentary on current political events. Since being kicked out of the Proud Boys and shunned by the Oath Keepers, even though he desecrated a statue on Jan. 6th, Dale Figgo starts his own white supremacist group which he calls Strokers for Liberty. There are corrupt politicians and millionaires, a hit man, and a hero who is not immune to blowing things up and other illegal activities. Hiaasen's writing is so funny I was LOLing at the nonsense. So much fun!

Finished "2 Sisters Detective Agency" by James Patterson and Candice Fox. I had read the second in the series first so this one introduces the characters and how the sisters met. There are some nasty murders, drug cartels, and a bit of romance. I liked it and hope there will be more in the series.

I'm going to start my book group book today. I can't remember what it is called, but it didn't sound all that interesting when I bought it on kindle for the class. :joy:

I started a sci-fi book I picked up in the new books section but I couldn't get into it and I may not finish it. It is "Two Truths and a Lie" by Cory O'Brien. It is just too weird.
So I read "Shelter in Place" by Nora Roberts. Her books are pretty much winners every time even if they are somewhat predictable. This was published in 2018 but is very contemporary as it is about a mass shooting at a shopping mall and the effects on the survivors over several years. The shooters are teen boys (isn't it always?) and the main characters are teens as well. How they deal with the trauma and its aftermath is the focus of the story. There is lots of family drama and some romance. There is also a serial killer who is stalking the survivors. Really good read!

finally finished this one and it was very good - her Dad had ALS and so a lot of the book was dealing with that and how it affected their relationship - I now has another of her's "What Made Maddy Run" and I think it is not going to be a joyous book as it is about young people, depression, pressures, social media

Hunting wives, smutty, silly. the book was better and different than the show.
"The roses of may". It was ok, but not as good as the first.
I am starting "The Butcher" later today.

couldn't read it.... I don't have anyone in my life that it would relate to and figure there is enough angst in my life already

I did read Judy Blume's "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret"

"The Butcher." 4.5 out of 5. Fantastic. I started it on Friday, I was busy yesterday and finished it today. They gave away the killer in the beginning of the book, but that was the point.

I finished The Shadow books. Book one called "The Shadow" and book three "The President's Shadow." Both fun quick reads as our hero, the Shadow and his crew save the world from evil. If more in the series are written, I will read them. They are based on this:
Whoa- that character has been around a while! My Mom listened to that show sometimes- which isn't that long ago historically, but not too many pop-fictional characters have been so long-lived... Superman, Tarzan, Batman, maybe Zorro, the Hardy Boys ((:)...

Very disturbing, dark, sad. Tough, traumatic topic. Not sure why it says thrller.

I am starting this tomorrow. Murder Mystery Book Club. I needed something cozy after the past few heavy books.

Read something lighter today. I found the newest book in the Mrs Murphy Mystery series. "Sealed with a Hiss" by Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown who is her cat. :) These are fast cozy mysteries with the animals that "talk" to each other and help solve the crimes. This one had a lot of Virginia history in it as well as a murder to solve.

Read "Unnatural Death" by Patricia Cornwell. This is one of the Kay Scarpetta series. I have read these in the past but not for a long time. Scarpetta is a Medical Examiner in Virginia. There is a lot of detail about her work in all the books. This one concerns domestic terrorists with ties to Russia. It was good with lots of scary technology and also a Bigfoot footprint at a murder scene.

I have been reading a historical Scottish, English series, romance etc - the author is Beatrice Small and I have enjoyed a couple of them so far.

still reading this author - read all the Border series and now started on some of her stand alones - I love seeing the different words they had for things back then.... bed sport.... there's lot of that ..... broken link with the moon (period) ..... so many other cool terms that I can't think of right now - the history I tend to skip as it is convoluted however I do like knowing how they lived and the food they ate

I just read "Murder On The Prowl", by Rita Mae Brown (and supposedly her cat Sneaky Pie Brown collaborated with her on it- but I kinda doubt that, unless "collaborate" includes getting up on her desk or lap when she's trying to type). It was fun, I guess. It's one of a series of murder mysteries with the animal characters helping solve it and catch the criminal. The main animal character, Mrs. Murphy, talks with the other animals of various species, who all speak in their own languages- but the humans don't understand any of it (to the frequent frustration of Mrs. Murphy and the others).

I have read a couple of this series now and I enjoy it. There are many, many books! I think it is a fun read! I have not read that one though.
