  1. Vegan newbie
I went vegan on July 1, and it's been two months since then. I was already a vegetarian, so going vegan wasn't such a big step. I initially experienced intense cravings for chocolate bars and ice creams, but they've now subsided. I've managed to find vegan substitutes for most of the non-vegan foods I used to enjoy: flavoured soy milk instead of cold coffee and Hide & Seek chocolate chip cookies instead of milk chocolate bars. All the other cookies contain milk. Unfortunately, we don't have vegan ice-cream here, but that's okay. (Please don't tell me to prepare vegan ice cream at home, as I can't cook.)

Being vegan is one of the easiest ways to contribute to society. You don't even have to do anything; you just have to not do something. It doesn't involve any work but does require a little discipline, especially in the initial days. It's insane that we live in a society where being non-vegan is even an option.

congrats - do you have a Magic Bullet or blender? if you do you have easily make ice cream with no cooking involved - freeze a couple of ripe bananas in 1.5 inch pieces then put them in the bullet/blender and whiz for a minute or two and then add any flavourings that you wish, example:
  • 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla flavouring
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder (or cocoa, your choice)
  • any frozen berries that you have available
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons peanut butter or equivalent peanut butter powder
  • a pinch of salt is very nice in all flavours
