  1. Vegan newbie
I turned vegan on July 1st, after which I haven’t intentionally purchased any meat, egg, or dairy products. There were a few occasions when I purchased a packet of cookies only to later read that milk was an ingredient, but I never bought those brands again. Parle’s Hide & Seek cookies, which have small chunks of chocolates embedded inside them, apparently don’t contain milk and are delicious.

I’ve replaced my morning cold coffee with a glass of Sofit’s soy milk, which comes in three flavours: vanilla, chocolate, and kesari pista. I’ve had to completely give up milk chocolate bars and ice creams, which was a little hard during the first few days, but I now have fruit juice instead. I was already vegetarian, and since most vegetarian dishes here are actually vegan, I didn’t have to make significant changes to my meals.

I feel great that I’m reducing a tiny amount of animal suffering every day. Veganism benefits not just the animals but the entire planet.

Great news! Congratulations! I'm going to google "kesari pista".

ETA: It seems to be a mixture of saffron and pistachios. I once bought a little bit of saffron, primarily to use in rice dishes: it gives such a beautiful yellow color, and is supposed to have a wonderful delicate flavor, or fragrance, or both. But I seem to be unable to really taste it. I might as well be using the much-cheaper-but-just-as-colorful turmeric. Maybe the saffron I got was old, and lost its flavor? I haven't read anything about saffron going bland if it's old...
