TV & Film The TV Room

First season.

I'm liking Firefly even more this time around, by the way. The first time I watched it I liked it but didn't really get into it and only saw the first couple episodes. Now that I have a valid goal (I got the movie Serenity for my birthday and I need to watch the series to actually be able to watch it and understand it) I've gotten my butt into gear and am finishing the series.

Really digging The Americans at the moment. It's been terrific so far. Two great central performances, loads of really exciting set-pieces, and a seriously cool 1980s period setting.

Firefly is amazing. One of my all-time favourite shows, I've probably watched it through about ten times at this stage. Serenity is pretty great too, although not quite as good as the series. You don't really need to have watched Firefly to understand it. It was designed to be as accessible as possible to non-fans of the show.

I'm watching new Supernatural and Anger Management.

I'm finding the second series of American Horror Story quite disturbing. :yuck:

Aww. I know what you mean as I did find it quite horrible too and had to cover my eyes at certain points. I think I am in the minority of people who preferred the second series as I found the storyline more cohesive than the first one.

I liked both, but the second one was a little scarier. Mostly because a lot of the things they showed had really happening during that time period, which wasn't all that long ago.

The third season is sounding good so far. Much lighter and somewhat humorous, with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates opposite each other.

Ah yes it is really quite horrible. But I think it is because of the fact that things like that really did happen, as you say Calliegirl. That's what makes it so disturbing.

Watched Shameless (US one) on demand last night. I like that show; even the kids are amazing actors. :)

 It really is a good show. I haven't seen the second or third seasons though and have heard that they aren't all that great (storyline wise).

I've only seen one episode of Supernatural. It's on my list of "things to watch once I watch all the other things I have to watch."

Right now I'm catching up on Firefly.

:up:Great choices!

I'm one of those people that couldn't deal with the second season. I quit watching early in the season. I am looking forward to the third one though.

Oh no! I guess a lot of people felt the same. It's a bit much. I do like it though & have to find out what happens as I'm now drawn into the story line....

I was watching Buffy on SyFy but they started skipping eps and messing up the order. Urgh.

Plus Dawn, stopped watching till they repeat Season 1

Oh! That's awesome. Well, still, I should watch the series first. :P If it functions as a sort of conclusion (does it? I'm not sure now) then it might do me well to watch 1-14 first.

I started to watch a new "reality" series called Welcome to Myrtle Manor on TLC that premiered on Sunday night at 10 pm, but I fell asleep halfway through. No, I was just tired. It looks nice and cheesy, so I'm going to seek it out on On Demand and watch the rest of it. I'll just have to record it if it airs that late. I also missed the first installment of The Vikings that premiered Sunday night on the History channel, but I'm sure they'll repeat it next Sunday. It first aired at 10 pm but repeated at 11 pm.

Finally got round to watching Black Mirror at the weekend.

Some of it was great, some not so great. I loved 'The Entire History of You' and 'Be Right Back'. 'The Waldo Moment' and '15 Million Merits' were pretty poor though, especially the latter, which was downright awful.

The other two episodes were somewhere in the middle. I think the show lets itself down when the sci-fi 'concept-of-the-week' is allowed to overwhelm other aspects.

The reason 'The Entire History of You' and 'Be Right Back' were such successful episodes for me is because they were more character-based than the others.

I thought Be Right Back was a pile....And was just bored watching the Waldo one. WhiteBear was amazing though.IMHO.
I havent watched the frist series yet. May give it a go.

So after I got over how sickening AHS is, I am fully hooked. What a good story line :D I like Death.

I've watched 4 or 5 more episodes today & might just get the series finished....

That's if it has finished airing in America already?

You'll almost certainly dislike 'The Entire History of You' as well so. I found them pretty similar.

I did quite like certain aspects of 'White Bear'. There were some really creepy visuals, especially during the first ten minutes or so.

On a different note, The Walking Dead had a very strong episode this week. This season has been a big improvement on the last, but it's still a poor to average show overall. Just goes to show that if the writers stopped being lazy, TWD has the potential to become much better.

^I'm not up to date with TWD but I agree with that. They could've mixed it up a whole lot more. It's really quite predictable.

Ooh, I agree. I loved this week's episode as it fleshed out a couple of the characters. I really look forward to the TWD each week but the dialogue isn't amazing.

I think my attention span is damaged to the point of me being unable to watch an entire season of anything.

Except Simpsons.
