TV & Film The TV Room

I was watching the Dresden files on the Roku channel. (BTW, you don't need to have a Roku to watch Roku. you just need the app.)
Anyway, like Netflix they show you the other movies or shows they think you might like. And they showed me another show I watched like 20 years ago.: The Listener. Like Dresden I didn't finish The Listener. Dresden got cancelled in less than one season. The Listener lasted like 5.
The Listener is about a mind reading paramedic in Toronto who helps the police solve crimes. Nothing great but decent.

yeah, we watched the Listener years ago and really enjoyed it, especially as we were living in Toronto at the time - I do like the woowoo ones though

I started watching "Dark Matter" which is based on a novel by Blake Crouch who is one of my favorite sci-fi authors. He is involved in the show so I expect it to be fairly close to the book. I know I read it but I can't remember it. First episode was pretty wild and I will continue watching it.

I get a kick out of seen the Canadian actors. It seems like every sci fi that comes out of Canada has the same 10 guest stars.

I read the book but haven't seen the new TV show. Tell me if it's worth checking out when you finish.

However, that reminded me of another Canadian TV show that I started and never finished: Dark Matter, 2015–2017, staring all the regular Canadian Sci fi actors I grew to love from the Listener, Orphan Black, Lost Girl, Continuum, etc.

I should try to find it and finish it when I'm done with these others.

I read that book relatively recently, and commented on it in the "What are you reading?" thread. I liked it! I think I also read another of his books around the same time.

I am 4 episodes into "Dark Matter" and I have remembered the basic premise of the book. It has really sucked me in! I don't remember the ending which is good because there is a lot of suspense. It's about alternate universes.

well we are a tenth of your population so there must be 100 regular sci-fi actors that are American lol

I actually like seeing them regularly. But it happens in the US and Canada. Actors and actresses become favorites of the Sci Fi community and get cast in lots of SF. Maybe it's just more apparent in Canada. But look at the cast of Firefly - all those guys keep showing up in Science Fiction - although a few of them have broker thru, like Nathan Fillion.

I wonder if there is a name for that species of science fiction/time travel.
one of my favs was the one about the assassin. Was that Looper?

we watched Survivor on Thursday night so last night we put on music videos while cooking our tacos and we were enjoying them so much that we just continued watching/listening during dinner and after too - we always start with Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel and the algorithm knows us so well now that is just continues with songs and bands that we love - we then popped up a band that we had seen once before The Graystones, they are a very young teen and preteen band in the San Fran area and they are just a joy to watch

I've been watching the Jesse Stone films on TV, but for some reason it didn't record two of the films so I missed them annoyingly.

@Emma JC I love "Solsbury Hill", but I haven't heard it on the radio for some time (and never did figure out what the lyrics meant, except the part where the eagle says he's come to take him home). Thanks for that reminder!

this is the best youtube version IMO as it is a compilation of the song played over all the years in many different venues - we never get tired of it - over 36 million views
