Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

Yes, I deleted it once and then installed it again because I thought it's some community thing one simply needs to do or something, not really sure what I thought, lol.

However, I've never had an alert so far and my (confirmed) COVID positive contacts are at work. I know I had and have contact with positive tested people so what's the point of having an app?

I guess I would install it again if I tested positive. However, one needs to type in a code or something - I don't have that since all my tests where performed at work so even if I would have a positive test the app would be useless I guess. Duh!

asking for healing thoughts for my niece, her husband and 7 kids - they are missionaries in Mexico and it seems that Dad must have picked up Covid about a week or so ago and thought he just had a cold - then Mom got sick and went for the test and it came back positive - 4 of the children are also not feeling good so it is likely the others will get it also - a doctor is coming to their home on a daily basis so that is good and I have recommended that they ask him for some NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) as it is an anti-inflammatory

also, while you are sending healing thoughts another of my nephews and his wife had a new baby two weeks ago and the babe is currently having a 5 hour surgery for heart/aortic/valve/hole surgery at Sick Kids in Toronto

thank you!

((Hugs))
I've deleted this idiotic app from my phone.

Why?

Because it always says "no risky contacts".

"No risky contacts" - my ***. I'm working in a hospital and I definitely have contact with COVID positive patients! (Of course these patients don't carry around their smartphones after having confirmed that they tested positive...)
I have said before that the app doesn't make any sense but my husband called his manager and he was told that if you get an app alert they have been told you have to take the days off work.

I know a couple of people who work for the London police that gave been told to ignore the app alerts and come into work.

a quick update on the baby - she came through the surgery with no unexpected complications or as the surgeon said "as well as could be expected" she is now on a ventilator and hopefully they will wake her up tonight - so grateful for our health care system and our amazing health professionals

just to show how our health system has worked for her - when she was born the midwife noticed that there may have been an heart murmer and so recommended a pediatric appointment asap - she had her appointment on Thursday and the doctor immediately admitted her to the hospital and set up an air transport to Toronto (400 miles) complete with isolette - that took place on Thursday night and mom accompanied the babe while Dad flew to Toronto commercial on Friday morning - babe in hospital all weekend with a nurse in attendance at all times and mom and dad took 8 hour shifts with her - surgery this morning... the only cost for them is dad's flight to Toronto and accommodation in Toronto although they may stay a Ronald MacDonald house for some of the time - so thankful that her life was not dependent on her parent's ability to afford health care

thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! she isn't out of the woods but the edge is in sight 😍

Now I'm getting all hypochondriatic about getting covid, since my sons test.
So many people at work had it, and they pretty much all say the same thing--it's like a very weird cold or flu and feels like it could get much worse at any moment.
I was just so tired, but the day was really kinda like that. I got really warm, but the ventilations been changed and it's just been kinda like that.
It is giving me more incentive to eat well at least, as I do feel that's a huge factor in both avoiding or at least reducing severity

It sucks that it won't be for a while until we can travel without it being a huge risk. It's been a few days since I went to mom's, so we should be okay.
I want her to come over when I get my car, so that's another risk. I also want to go over for her birthday, but that's in October.
My best friend and her family did end up catching covid, her family has recovered, however she is in the hospital.

Really pleased to hear @Emma JC that she has come through the surgery “as well as could be expected “truly praying that she continues to get better... Yep, sounds like the Canadian health care system is living up to the good things I have heard about it... Whenever I hear people in the USA say that they don’t want Socialised medicine I just sigh - because most people have no idea what it is... Living in France when my husband was diagnosed with and treated for Pancreatic cancer I have seen How great Socialised medicine can be...Nobody would EVER want to go through that - However, the care that we both received was Excellent and Completely covered...
Please do keep us posted on her progress...Sending healing thoughts her way...What is her name?

I have since reconsidered my thoughts on waiting for the vaccine. By the time it's available to me will be overdue!
We had an hour long webinar at work about our covid protocols, in house testing available on request. I really didn't get anything out of it

The vaccine definitely comes with risks because it’s new and therefore there’s only so much that we can know about it.

However, COVID is far more dangerous.

I’m going to get vaccinated as soon as I become eligible.

Indeed.

The thing is the hospital I'm working at right now - the severe COVID cases are all elderly people over 75, mostly over 80. So our youngsters don't take it that seriously.

The hospital I worked at before - they've seen quite a few people under 60 and way younger, some under 30, having severe cases of COVID and dying while being on ventilation or ECMO. So more people wanted the vaccine.

I personally think that it's indeed being a risk being vaccinated with a first generation vaccine. However, I also think the following is true: "If you don't like the cure/vaccine, try the disease instead."

I just hope the shots work.

in Ontario, we now have a requirement that anyone that returns from travel has to isolate in a 'covid hotel' at their own expense for two weeks - hopefully it will deter people from travelling as it is expensive for them (I think around $2000 per person)

also, separate covid hotels are available to anyone else that has covid and needs to self isolate and for them it is FREE of charge - meals provided - this is for anyone that cannot easily self isolate at home - full service medical supervision is provided - the hotels are located in areas where
multi-generational homes are more common - it is also available for anyone who has been exposed but not necessarily positive - the positive people and the 'just isolating' people are kept on separate floors

I know so many COVID deniers - people who still think it’s all a conspiracy and that the numbers are inflated. The usual line is, “It was mostly elderly people who had other health problems. The hospitals get paid for listing COVID as a cause of death.”

This comes mostly from conservatives, but not entirely. And then there are people who think they won’t get it because they’re special. “I don’t get sick much. This is only affecting people with serious health issues.”

Even now, it’s not being taken seriously by a lot of people.

I think we’re in an interesting spot with the vaccines being rolled out and new variants arriving at the same time. Things could get better or worse or stay the same. It’s unpredictable right now.

Well, my friend is very sickly, she's the same age as me. Covid hit her hard since she was a premature baby and has had health issues all her life. I defiantly wouldn't want my parents catching it and dying, I would miss them very much. I would hope they are healthy enough to survive it.

That stuff about the hospitals getting paid for listing deaths as COVID was exactly what a conservative friend of mine told me. She also disputes how COVID deaths are reported when people have other conditions. She always claims it was the other conditions that killed them rather than the COVID. I mean, half the time they wouldn't have been in the hospital if not for COVID. I have a cousin who's a denier even though one of his sons just tested positive and is ill. They constantly have Fox "news" on. It's galling.

My son tested negative :)
So many coworkers have gotten it, and most all have been doing all the right things, hygiene, masks, isolating....
The latest man took it very seriously as he lives with his elderly father. He contracted it and his father did a few days later. His dad is in the hospital on a vent and from what I understood a semi-coma? They had to restart his heart more than once. :worried:

No one I talk with thinks it's a hoax, but many feel it's just another virus we need to learn to live with. No one talks of the zoonotropic transmission

That's great about your son! I know that a friend of mine who got it, along with her whole family, was also doing all the right things. It's scary how transmissible it is.
