They have a TV show here called "Elementary," which is based on the Sherlock Holmes characters, but is set in New York City and Watson is an American woman.
One episode featured a search for a business executive who made use of numerous high-priced prostitutes. At one point, Holmes referred to these women as slappers.
That is a term that is not found in most American dictionaries, and that I had never heard used before.

That was a puzzlement to me as well when we moved to England. The first week teaching at our new school one of the teachers called a rather slutty girl a slapper (she kept dry humping boys in his class) and he was fired. I asked the origin of the term and I was told it was because it looks as though they've slapped their makeup on with a trowel. Don't know if that is true....

I actually find slapper more offensive than ****. A slapper to me is a **** that looks really rough & caked in make up & try-hard.
