Rotting durian leads to Melbourne university evacuation

More than 500 students and teachers were evacuated from a university in Melbourne, Australia, as a result of a smell initially suspected to be gas.

That's hilarious. I tried freeze-dried durian once, and it was the nastiest thing I ever tasted. You would have to pay me a lot of money for me to eat it fresh.

My boss brought back some durian-based sweets from his holiday in Malaysia recently, which I sampled out of curiosity. It seemed like it would be quite an acquired taste and smell ... So not my thing.

I've also read that durian shouldn't be consumed with alcohol, if i remember correctly, but can't quite remember why.
