I've had a very restful time post-op... Serious lack of exercise. Have done a few super quick hiit cycles in the past week or so but work is so busy & exhausting since going back (Christmas in retail, lol) that there's no time/energy to do much! Will be getting back into a workout routine now though hopefully.

How's everyone else doing?

Not too well. Lots of stress and serious pain due to a double tendinitis and I also have bad pain in my leg.

Have the doctors offered any ideas as to what could be done to help?

Glad you're on the mend! :)

 please take care of yourself <3

I finally had my first session back at Roller Derby after my injury. It was really hard work, but after something like 9 weeks off I've only lost half a lap off my best time. Pretty pleased with that.

Oh, shyvas, I hope you find relief soon. Tendinitis is so nasty.
Raggle, glad you are getting better and can start exercising again.
AF, awesome that your layoff didn't affect your Roller Derby time. Fantastic!

I am trying to maintain my usual workout regimen of a minimum of five days a week of mostly cardio at the moment. My shoulder is slooooowly getting better, but it's not ready for strength training just yet. I can at least swing my arms a bit higher than my chest without too much discomfort, but I can't go completely overhead with my left shoulder. Sigh. That said, I can modify the arm work in the aerobics videos I do. I figure if I sweat, I must be doing something good. ;) After I get my hair done this morning, I will be taking a really long walk. Maybe I will do my city walk if I have enough time before I head off for my concert tonight.

I still need to work on the white refined carbs. Too much bread of late.

I hope things go well with the specialist, shyvas. Fingers crossed for you.

Well last week was a great week exercise-wise, and this week I have been a complete slug. I really wanted to walk outside this morning, and the cloudy skies deterred me, along with my desire to make some seitan. :D Excuses, excuses. This is also my busy week, so I tend to want to rest more before work because I know I will have a few very long days. Blah, I do need a good sweat, though.

Warning: Depression/Suicide

Ok, so almost a week ago I got some terrible news - a friend of mine lost his battle with depression. Aside from feeling really crappy about losing a friend, it triggered my own depression and I've spent the last week at the lowest I've been in a while. So my health goals primarily became about survival, and not letting it get the best of me. It's been really rough, I've spent several days entirely in bed because I couldn't get up, not eating, crying constantly, and I've had several panic attacks due to depression not allowing me to do my job and the stress of my job piling up. Today has been a little better. I got out of bed, showered, got dressed, did a few chores, tackled some of my work, and cooked two healthy meals. I'm not completely better, and I still miss my friend a lot (obviously), but I am alive, and feeling like something vaguely resembling a functioning human being. So that's a win in my book.

Above everything, though, I'm left feeling as though it's really important to talk about these things. Depression is not pretty. It affects so many people, yet we refuse to talk about it because it's "not proper" or whatever. But talking about it is a good chunk of the battle. So this is my attempt to remove some of its power. Sorry for the ramble.

Oh, wow, AF, I am so sorry for your loss. Big, big hugs to you. I'm so glad you are able to talk about your feelings here. It's so important to be able to express feelings, good and bad. Keep checking in with us.

I am sorry to read that, AeryFairy... I am glad you are holding up and doing things to take care of yourself. Keep posting here if you need people to talk to.

I'm sorry about your friend AF. Some people certainly do have difficult lives.

I'm trying to eat bigger meals so that I can stop snacking which is getting out of control. With all the stress that I'm
dealing with it is difficult not to snack of sweet stuff.

Thanks everyone, it means a lot. I'm doing a lot better this week than I was last week.

In happier health-related news, I had an amazing session at roller derby yesterday :D They always split us into three groups; beginner, intermediate, and advanced. But the split of the groups was weird, because the intermediates were really good, and the beginners' group was just one guy who had never skated before. So the jammer from our C team decided to give me a bespoke one-on-one lesson. She helped me get over my fears relating to my injury, taught me some tips that helped me massively improve, and I knocked out 15 laps at the end (previous best was 13). It was awesome :)

More hugs for you, AF. :)

I am glad you are doing better physically as well. :) Way cool on the roller derby. One of these days you should get somebody to do a video so that we can see you in action! :D

I have had a very good few days of exercise and eating (yay). On Saturday, I did my city walk (5.5 miles) and on Sunday, I walked around a lot in Northampton with my friend. Yesterday I did a Leslie Sansone power walk video and today I did the treadmill on a nice incline and climbed 1,805 feet. :)

Sounds like you're keeping up with things! Way to go :)

There will definitely be footage and pictures of me on my skates before long. For now, for anyone interested, there is a BBC documentary about roller derby featuring my team (including the jammer who was training me yesterday) :D Not sure if it's accessible from the states, though...

Skate Fast, Hit Hard

I did the treadmill today. I had taken a few days off exercising on account of so much traveling over the weekend. I really missed my weekend walk, but I am back on track today. I had time for only 40 minutes, but I figure something is always better than nothing. I prefer at least 50 minutes. :D Still, I climbed 1,509 feet. :)
