That is also what I have heard. I've never been so far up North.

There are only 2 must-go places in Europe and the world for me and they are Venice and the Lake District. I hope that the Lakes does not get world heritage status because all sorts of people who have no interest in walking, the Romantic poets, Wainwright or anything worthwhile will then want to go there. Just to put you off I will add that it rains a lot there, that it's very cold in winter and that, just like Venice it's very easy to get lost there. But in both places I think: what a fabulous place to get lost.
