News Israel bombing Gaza again

"Why, then, is the world not outraged at an occupied Cyprus the way it is at, say, Israel?

Nicosia is certainly more divided than is Jerusalem. Thousands of Greek refugees lost their homes more recently, in 1974, than did the Palestinians in 1947.

Turkey has far more troops in Northern Cyprus than Israel has in the West Bank. Greek Cypriots, unlike Palestinians, vastly outnumbered their adversaries. Indeed, a minority comprising about a quarter of the island's population controls close to 40 percent of the landmass. Whereas Israel is a member of the U.N., Turkish Cyprus is an unrecognized outlaw nation.

Any Greek Cypriot attempt to reunify the island would be crushed by the formidable Turkish army, in the brutal manner of the brief war of 1974. Turkish generals would most likely not phone Greek homeowners warning them to evacuate their homes ahead of incoming Turkish artillery shells."......

......"The next time anti-Israeli demonstrators shout about divided cities, refugees, walls, settlers and occupied land, let us understand that those are not necessarily the issues in the Middle East. If they were, the Cyprus tragedy would also be center-stage.

Likewise, crowds would be damning China for occupying Tibet, or still sympathizing with millions of Germans who fled a now-nonexistent Prussia, or deploring religious castes in India, or harboring anger over the tough Russian responses to Georgia, Crimea and Ukraine, or deploring beheadings in northern Iraq.

Instead, accept that the Middle East is not just about a dispute over land. Israel is inordinately damned for what it supposedly does because its friends are few, its population is tiny, and its adversaries beyond Gaza numerous, dangerous and often powerful.

And, of course, because it is Jewish."

Any of you met a WW2 holocaust survivor? Seen the tattoos from the camps? Heard them speak about how this would happen again? I'm not Jewish, but grew up in a town with many Jews and have tons of Jewish friends, I always thought, oh no, not in my lifetime, people's memories are not that short.

Wrong again.

In the current conflict, 67 Israelis were killed. All but three were soldiers.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 Gazans were killed. Most were civilians. That's hundreds of Palestinian civilians for every one Israeli civilian.

There's dehumanization going on.

Reactions: Second Summer
.. Israel, a nation the size of New Jersey, surrounded by countries who want Israel and its people annihilated.

As every fool knoweth the three most important things to consider when buying a home are location, location and location.

The same three considerations seem to apply to stealing homes also.

Drop me off in Kurdistan with a resupply every week or two and I'll happily fight with/for persecuted Muslims. I empathize with their cause too, even more so. There are plenty of people in this world that need to die besides Hamas, from IS to Boko Haram. I won't discriminate. I think most people would rather just sit back and judge, maybe going so far as to "strongly condemn" the actions of whatever random group has triggered their empathy. A pointless gesture I seem to hear every other day.

Spang I'm not gonna lump you in that generalization. I don't know your story.

The White House has instructed the Pentagon and U.S. military officials to halt the transfer of Hellfire missiles requested by Israel after learning that some weapons shipments entered Israel during the Gaza conflict without prior approval by the White House or the State Department.

A Wall Street Journal report reveals how the Pentagon was directly supplying weapons to Israel to support Operation Protective Edge against Hamas fighters in Gaza without White House knowledge. The latest move marks a low point in trust between the Israeli government and recent American presidents of all persuasions.

Apparently, the Obama administration is not the first US administration in history to temporarily halt deliveries to Israel though. Both Ford and Reagen did the same.

My experience shows the pro-Israel side rarely shows sympathy towards the Palestinian civilians who suffer. Has this been the case with others?

Wow you took what I said way out of context.

Way up near the beginning of the thread, I said Israel should use surgical strikes and real time intel to go after the leaders of Hammas to avoid casualties.

And in my post above, I squarely place the blame on Hammas, not the Palestinian people, and not "Meanie Muslims" in general.

But don't let that stop you from painting me as being some monster blind to the Palestinian suffering, to further your position. You're using one of those sneaky debate tactics..but I forget what it's called.

Nonetheless, congratulations, you've passed Propaganda 102.

Uh, I wasn't even responding to your post?

But congrats on getting super defensive about that.

As close as t0 100% as matters, yes.

Got taken a bit by surprise today though.

My father, usualy a rabid Zionist apologist, came straight out of the blue with "I'm ashamed to be Jewish".

Paint those who disagree with you as monsters. Another important tactic of propoganda.
This may be the first time I've gotten involved in an internet discussion about this issue. It's not an issue I read about very often or talk about very often. If I'm going to paint a person as a monster, it would be about issues I consider much more important than Israel-Palestine.

I been dealing with Christians that are blaming sin and people sinning and God turned his back on the world and not hearing prayers because of sin and all and that is why he is allow the violence and muslims take peoples lives and other things regarding that. This was the last straw and i am no longer going to consider me Christian after these lies.
