I'm always fascinated to hear about celebrity run ins and encounters. It's interesting to find out which celebrities are actually really cool in real life and which ones are total assholes.

Have you met anyone famous? If so, what was your experience like?

I stood next to Hulk Hogan at the mall, back in '96 maybe. He was looking at sunglasses with his daughter. I didn't bother them.

I saw Brian may at a small shop in London.

I was also metres away from Daniel Day-Lewis at a premiere.

i sneaked into a Ricky Martin concert and was about 20 metres away from him when he was performing. But we were behind the stage so I was looking at the back of him.

I've never met a celebrity. The closest I've ever come was going to Carmel years ago with my mother. We couldn't figure out why the parking was so bad. Worse than it normally would have been. They were filming Seems Like Old Times with Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn. We watched some of the filming for a time though not much seemed to be going on and saw Chevy Chase.

They filmed one of the Dirty Harry movies in Santa Cruz. My brother watched the body on the beach scene being filmed.

I agree with you though. Got to wonder what some of the stars and celebrities are really like. They are only people after all.

No 'celebrities' really, just slightly famous people.

Many people from Eastenders - they must live around here because they're all over the place! Victoria Beckham as she is from this area too, never David though booo. & other footballers that live in the area, although half the time I have no clue who they are.

Frankie Detorri & John Mccririck who is the rudest man ever.

The Rock! Rupert Grint. Charles Worthington. Some guy from Iron Maiden.

When my daughter was little she was an extra in a movie with Ed O'Neill (from Married with Children and Modern Family). There weren't a lot of people there, it was just him, one other guy and the three kids in the scene which took all day to film.
Afterwards, Ed O'Neill wouldn't talk to anyone, which was disappointing. But, Tony Danza (from Whos the Boss and Taxi) was directing, and he was really nice. He came outside and took pictures with all the kids.

One time I volunteered at a film festival (which was a lot of fun) and I met Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton. Ron was getting an award and Linda came along to support him. I had seen a lot of the films and before the awards were given out, they had a filmmaker meet and greet I guess you would call it.
I was talking to and joking around with the guys who had made the film that was my favorite, and for some reason we started talking about Ron Perlman. I mentioned how my daughter had wanted me to get a picture of him for her, because she loved him as Hellboy, but I wasn't going to. I didn't want to look like I was all giddy over a celebrity. They said I couldn't disappoint my daughter and before I knew what was happening, they each grabbed a arm and pulled me through the crowd of people over to where he was talking to some people, shoved me forward, and announced very loudly that I wanted to take a picture with him. They were laughing while I stood with Ron getting a picture taken. Very embarrassing and they weren't done yet. Next thing I knew they were dragging me over to Linda Hamilton and did the same thing.
Anyway, both Ron and Linda were very nice and I ended up talking to Linda for a while.

I've seen lots of people, mostly when I've gone into Central London. You see loads of DJs and other TV presenters there. I saw Russell Brand and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) last year. I've never gone up to ask for an autograph because I'm too uber cool to do that.:weird:

The only celebrity I have ever been "close" to (other than concerts which I don't think "count") is Mohammed Ali. Many years ago he was on some kind of tour and stopped at a school where I was working.
My BIL recently met Bill Murray at an airport and has a picture of him on his phone. He said he was very gracious and let people take pictures but would not sign autographs and moved to another location after a little while.

I met Bill Murray and his brother Brian Doyle Murray, at a restaurant years ago. They were at the next table after having played golf. They were talking to everyone and being super friendly the whole time. Sadly, it was in Newtown, Connecticut.

I also met classic film actress Sylvia Sidney (from Beetlejuice her most recent); she came to our high school play and helped with the stage makeup for The Flower Drum Song! She did my eyes up to look Asian (they are round and blue lol). She was very old then, too, so classy and quick-moving.

Arnold Schwarzenegger visited the troops in Kuwait in '03. I shook his hand.

I don't think I've met anyone famous, although I've had a couple of opportunities.

Then prime minister Tony Blair came to my workplace once, but I decided to leave before he arrived because I think he's a slime eel. Later the Queen came to visit as well, but I took the day off, nothing personal, but I didn't want to lend credibility to her evil regime by being present.

One time when I was living in Oslo, I came out of the subway and discovered police with machine guns lined up along the street, which is a rare sight in Norway where the police is not normally armed. There were lots of people as well, obviously waiting for something, so I waited a couple of minutes to see, and then came a line of cars, one of which was carrying President Clinton. Okay, so I didn't exactly meet him, but still, I was within meters of the Prez.

I was the camera operator and floor director for the show LinkAsia, so I encountered the host, Yul Kwon (winner of Survivor: Cook Island), regularly. After my last show, he took me out to lunch.

When I lived in NYC, I worked at Zabar's - an Upper West Side gourmet / specialty food store. This is the setting for most of the famous people I've encountered.

David Bowie - a true gentleman. He accepted a CD demo from the band I was in at the time, and also autographed the book I was reading. He was with Iman but she was in another part of the store, so I didn't get to meet her, but would have liked to.

Art Garfunkel - down to earth cat.

Paul Simon - down to earth cat.

James Taylor - He had a broken arm at the time and I asked him for his autograph anyway for my friend Alice who adores him. JT willingly scribbled out a nice message to Alice and her husband hates me (feigned) to this day for being able to give her that gift - which still hangs on her wall.

Tracey Ullman - so friendly.

Geena Davis - sweet.

Tony Randall - As polite and gentlemanly as one would expect. RIP

Robin Williams - Asked him for his autograph for my ex girlfriend. I said: 'My ex-girlfriend Lisa would kill me if I didn't get your autograph for her.' He wrote: 'Dear Lisa - don't kill him. He got the autograph!' He was making a movie at the time in which he spoke Russian and was trying out lines on some of the employees we have who were from there. He had the whole place entertained.

Bruce Willis - animated and more down to earth than one might expect.

Cindy Crawford - <3

Cindy Lauper - <3

Mary Lou Henner - <3

Laurence Fishborne - jackass. Refused an autograph request from a co-worker. I told him to quip, 'Oh sorry, I thought you were Samuel Clemens, a real star.'

Woody Allen - I didn't meet him but he did wander through the store (a site which he used repeatedly in his films) with his hands forming a picture frame, as though he was looking through a camera. (No joke.)

Tiny Tim - a very large man. RIP

Conan O'Brien - :p
Max Weinberg (Drummer for the E-Street band) - down to earth as you could possibly be. Met backstage at Conan O'Brien taping. (NBC.)

Patty Scialfa - <3 Backstage on Springsteen's 'Born in the USA' tour. Melted my heart. A wonderful woman. I like to tell myself she was flirting with me, via the little <3 she drew on my tourbook.

Clarence Clemons - an awesome cat. Backstage on Springsteen's 'Born in the USA' tour. RIP

Rupert Holmes (Pina Colada song) -
Jane Pauley -
Diane Sawyer -
Lauren Bacall -
Lauren Hutton -
Carole King -
Meatloaf -

Jimmy Gnecco - (Singer / guitarist from the band: OURS). Met downstairs at the Chicago House of Blues after Ours opened for The Wallflowers. This story is for another day - but suffice to say he is a pretty goddamn awesome cat.

A band I was in was on the same bill as 'Our Lady Peace' at CBGB's back in the 90's. Henry Rollins and Iggy Pop were in the audience, but it's not fair to say that I actually encountered them. Our Lady Peace band members were dicky.

Adam Yauch / MCA - (Beastie Boys) Another band I was in played a party in Soho - he showed up and drank himself into a stupor. He asked where I was from. When I replied 'Iowa' he kept repeating 'Ireland??' Nice enough guy though.

Lou Reed - we passed each other on a Monday morning crossing Broadway. I looked up and recognized him, which he must have noticed from my face. I didn't bother him - but as we passed just lightly patted his shoulder to say 'I love you man.' Okay, that was really dumb, but I was star-struck.

Sorry for the long post, once I started this it triggered my memory.

Not really celebrities. But I've met the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, William and Kate xxx

Also, and this depends on whether you watch Ideal Home Create and Craft, I'm friends with one if the presenters lol xxx

I don't think I have ever heard any bad stories about people meeting Bill Murray. He seems to be a really cool guy.

My friend met The Rock after some wrestling match thing. She had him sign her cleavage.

Very impressive list you got there Dedalus.

 Especially Raine.

The only famous people I met have been bands.
Godsmack- all nice. Sully the lead singer is surprisingly short. I'm 5"4 and was taller than him.

I hung out on the band Fuel's tour bus while they waited for Brett the lead singer to come out. They invited all of us to keep warm on the bus while they waited. They kicked us out right before he came out though. They said he would be ****** if he knew we were on there. I didn't attempt to meet him after I heard that.

Finger Eleven- This was before they had any songs on the radio. I was a big fan of theirs so it was surreal to finally meet them. I didn't meet James the drummer though because I had a huge crush on him and I was way too intimidated by his hotness to get anywhere near him. Scott the lead singer was a cool guy but a close talker. I kept backing away when he talked and he just kept inching forward. I loved the band but I also loved and valued my personal space.

I've met more bands but I can't think of them at the moment. I went to a lot of concerts when I was younger and always waited around after the show to try to get autographs.

I love Bill Murray.

I met Dom DeLouise in an elevator at an Atlantic City casino years ago. He was awesome...very friendly.

I saw Chevy Chase, quite a few years ago, in a shoe store in a mall but was too shy to approach him.

Just saw David Canary (from All My Childen) in the same mall a few weeks ago. I was behind him in line at the register. Didn't speak to him, either.

Joan Lunden frequented a local CVS in my old hometown. Saw her a few times when I lived there.

I saw a famous newscaster at a hospital when my sister went into labor 37 years ago... I can't remember his name but I can see his face clearly. I'll try and remember...
