TV & Film Celebrity Encounters

I live in the Los Angeles area so I've had a few celebrity encounters and sightings.

I saw Tom Hanks in a popular restaurant in Santa Monica one time, but I didn't bother him or anything. I was there with my family, and when my sister came back from the restroom she said she met Kathleen Turner there and that they said hello to each other and she was friendly to my sister.

I once shook hands with the Reverend Jesse Jackson at a teach-in at a West L.A. synagogue back when the US was involved in the war in Serbia. He was the keynote speaker.

I got an autograph from Pete Seeger after a concert he gave in Los Angeles. I still have the autograph.

I met Mary McDonnell because her daughter and my niece were briefly friends when they attended the same elementary school, and my sister asked me to drive my niece over to her friend's house for a sleepover. Mary was very pleasant, even though we chatted for only a couple of minutes.

I've met Metallica through a fan meet and greet. They have them for every show and if you're a club member (the only fan club I'm in, I swear ;-) ), you can enter. I'd never done it, but my friend and I were going on mini-Metallica tour (five shows in seven days), and she talked me into entering on the off-chance that we'd win, and that maybe we win the M&G for the same show. Well, she won for D.C. and I won for Boston. I have to say, the guys were all very gracious and attentive. My favorite is James Hetfield, and when he got to me, I believe it was the first time in my life I was speechless, lol. He has this intense stare and he looked right at me and all I could think was how beautiful his eyes were :D. I finally managed to mutter something like, Thanks for the music, lol. We also had our pictures taken with each member. All in all, a very cool time, as I'm not usually in for that sort of thing. I'd rather not know that some of my favorites could be d*cks :D.

Some others, through work as a reporter and some as just a fan:

John Wesley (guitarist)...unbelievably polite and sweet and just a joy to talk to.

Michael Douglas (I got to interview him for a charity event in the town I was covering)...very professional and gracious. Even offered to buy me a drink, which was very sweet.

Bill Clinton. He came to my town for a presidential walk-through, basically, and I had all day to wait in line, as I was out of work at the time :D. I resisted the urge to direct him to the nearest McDonald's :D. I got to shake his hand. First and only president I've met. I could have met Obama (when he was a candidate) when he visited our newsroom, but I resisted any fan-girl notions and decided I should behave like a proper journalist and be all objective. He was standing about 30 feet away from my desk.

Mark Tremonti (guitarist for Creed, Alter Bridge). Very cool. He was walking around Philly and stopped and asked my friend and me if we knew where a good diner was :D. We did.

Johnny Dee (drummer for Doro). He's a friend of a friend, so that's how we met. Another very sweet guy.

Celeb sightings:
Chris Noth -- saw him in a coffee shop in NYC, but I didn't approach him. Loved him in Law & Order years ago, though.
Dustin Hoffman -- I was walking through Central Park, and he rode by on a bicycle.
Lonn Friend -- saw him at a Porcupine Tree concert in NYC
Jerry Cantrell -- getting into a cab in NYC. He was wearing a white cowboy hat. Looked pretty cool.

I dont think Ive met anyone famous that I can think of. Talked to a few z-listers at work but thats it. We get a-listers call in but ive never talked to someone, also itd cause a **** storm if we started telling everyone who was calling in (I work in health insurance ).

Ive apparently met a lot of rugby players, since I go out in Twickenham a lot. I have nooo idea who though, just chat at the bar then someone says to me "do you know who you were talking to??" nooooo I dont!

For someone who lives in an area where a lot of celebrities like to live, my list is boring, sorry : ( Ive seen a few or even smiled at them, but never talked to one.

I flew to England with my mom in 1998 when I was 14 or 15, and when we visited Bath, there were two guys on the tour together with us who looked an awful lot like Matt Stone and Trey Parker from South Park. The Parker-looking guy was wearing a hat that said "Canada" on it. I was pretty positive it was them, but I was too shy to approach them. Years later, I saw a South Park documentary where they mentioned going to England, and it showed a picture of them in which Trey was wearing the same Canada hat. Celebrity sighting confirmed!

I've also briefly met/shaken hands with a few famous-to-me musicians and comedians after shows: Louis CK, Todd Barry, Robert Pollard (from Guided by Voices), Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Jimmy Pardo, Doug Stanhope, and Neil Hamburger.

Haha, cool...I get all happy if Gil Simmons likes a comment I made on his page. He's a weatherman on a local Connecticut news channel, lol. :D

Only local people, really. I was meters away from Drake Bell once, but didn't meet him.

There was this one time I was at a public event and met this one guy from a cooking special my grandmother likes, and I recognized him, so we got a picture with him and an autographed photo to send to my grandmother. She was very pleased, and at the next year's event we did the same thing, as he was there again.

I work at a luxury hotel so I've seen a few but am not allowed to "recognize" them (ie ask for autographs, etc)

Alicia Silverstone - I worked out 2 treadmills down from her and her hubby! She brought Bear on this trip and seemed much the doting mum.

The guy that plays the dad Cullen in Twilight. I knew he was an actor but couldnt place him until after I had help him. Em..he was a bit sketch.

Vince Vaughn - TALL. the man is TALL. And really funny. He came with his wife. Pretended to shop for some ladies things for himself. He seems like someone who you would want to hang out with. Just really laid back and finds the humour in everything.

Paul McGillion - This was a few years ago, on the street, before I worked at the hotel. He was very nice and I was fan-girl-ing OUT. Ugh. Embarrassing.

Alec Baldwin - very nice and polite.

Jason Biggs - very nice and polite and paranoid of ppl recognizing him. lol

Rob Spragg (AKA Larry Love) of The Alabama 3 is on the train I'm on right now!

One of the members of that band has been to my house.:D He was dating someone I know. I don't remember which one of them it was though. This was before they did The Sopranos song and became more well known.

Cool! I've seen them live a few times, great fun band!

I didn't speak to him on the train as he was with someone. I am so crap at spotting celebrities but he's pretty distinctive looking! :)
