Literature What are you currently reading?

I couldn't find that one of hers in my libraries so I borrowed her Merry Matchmaker instead.

I didn't like this at all and dumped it in chapter two - back to Linwood Barclay's No Time For Goodbye after finishing My Royal Shomance which I enjoyed very much.

Today I finished book one of Nora Robert's The Dragon Heart Legacy trilogy called "The Awakening." This is different from the other books I have read by her. It is a romantacy about an alternate universe that has magic and no technology. A young woman finds out she is of both the modern world and the land of Talamh and choices must be made. It is a cool story and I have book two to read and will reserve book three. I like it a lot. There are dragons of course!

Just finished book two in the Dragon Heart Legacy, "The Becoming", by Nora Roberts. I thought it was a pretty typical fantasy/romance with the ongoing battle between good and evil. It's fun and now I will read book three and finish the fairly predictable story.

I read "Iron Lake" by William Kent Krueger. I have read a couple of his other books and he is an excellent writer. He lives in Minnesota and is very knowledgeable about Native American culture in the area. This book is the first in a 17 book series and was published in 1998 so pretty dated. It doesn't really affect the story much; they just don't have cell phones. It is about a former Sheriff in a small town in Northern Minnesota in the iron ranges. There's murder and intrigue and twists and turns. Lots of info on history and NA culture as the character is part NA. Really good story and I will look for more in this series about Cork O'Connor.

I have started reading this and finding it interesting, so far. Thank you for the recommendation.

I just started Flowers for Algernon. I have heard of this book and I know it is very famous but I’ve never read it before. It seems quite disturbing so far.

I read that many many years ago and remember it vaguely. I did just now look it up and there have been 2 films made based on the story.

It is referenced in a lot of American TV shows, but I thought the storyline was something completely different. I don’t know what I was confusing it with.

Thank you for the recommendation - I am about a quarter way through this and had to stop and read something else for a bit as I am finding it very stressful....

Just read another older (2007) Nora Roberts book called "High Noon." It is about a hostage negotiator in Savannah, GA. I am familiar with Savannah and enjoy reading books about places I know. It is a typical Roberts romance/crime drama with a scary stalker. The tech is a little dated but still a really good book.

I started reading this again and about 3/4s of the way through now - it has been easier to consume this time around.

Flowers for Algernon was incredibly dark and depressing! I felt like I couldn’t stop once I started it.

I have to start my book for my new book group next week. It is a young adult one. I forget the name.

Finished High Noon by Nora Roberts and also read The Wedding People by Alison Espach which I thought someone recommended but not sure who - it was a great book, easy reading and different from the usual.

I read "Blood Sisters" by Vanessa Lillie who is a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. This is a chilling thriller though it is fiction is based on the terrible fact that NA women disappear at an alarming rate. Lots of twists and turns as a NA woman BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) agent searches for her missing sister.

I remembered the title from when I was in High School! It was one of the books you could read for English Class, but I don't think it was one of my choices. I don't care for dark stories, but I rather doubt "Flowers" could be any darker than "All Quiet On The Western Front", which was a novel about World War One told from the perspective of several German soldiers.

ETA: I just looked up "Flowers"- I saw the movie version with Cliff Robertson. Very sad.

Today I read Michael Connelly's newest book called "Nightshade". It's a good fast read about a sheriff on Catalina Island investigating the murder of a woman known to be a "gold digger" who works at a gentlemen's club. There is also a buffalo killed on a preserve. It all ties together in a twisted conspiracy. Good read! This is the first book in a new series.

yesterday I picked up Nora Roberts "Hidden Nature" from the library - hopefully will get it read as I still have Stephen King's "Never Flinch" that I haven't even started yet and had to renew today - so addicted to reading on my phone that 'real' books get ignored
