Literature What are you currently reading?

Just finished "Obsessed" by James Patterson and James O. Born. This is a newer (2023) book in a series about a detective in NYC. I am going to try to find earlier books for background info on the characters. It was a good thriller about a killer of young women who are in a dating service.

I have been reading this and it is very good and interesting.

Today I finished "perfect match" by Jodi Picoult. This is an older book published in 2002 so the tech is dated but that doesn't affect the story any. It is the very disturbing story of child sexual abuse. Nina Frost is a prosecutor specializing in rape and child abuse cases. Then her own 5 year old son is abused and her world turns upside down. The story is told in multiple perspectives with Nina's being in first person. This is a family drama with complicated characters and there are twists that surprise you. Great read that sucks you in and you get really involved with the characters. I know I have read something else by this author but I can't remember so I will just look for more; there are many.

I think I have read every one of Jodi's books and I don't recall this story so may have to borrow it again, she is an amazing author.

I'm reading How to Sell a Haunted House at the moment. I have another book to pick up from the library - The Haunting of Alma Fielding.

It is spooky season after all. :joy:

I just finished another older (2009) Nora Roberts book called "Black Hills." It's about a woman who follows a life long dream of having an animal sanctuary on her property in the Black Hills of South Dakota where she grew up. She is an expert on cougars and has studied them all over the world and is famous for her research. There is a lot of romance in this one and family is a big theme. There is also a serial killer. Good read!

I read "Lost Birds" by Anne Hillerman. I think this is the latest book in the Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernie Manalito series. It was published in 2024. Most of her books in this series which she took over from her father Tony Hillerman have focused on Jim and Bernie with Leaphorn being a minor character. This one features Leaphorn who is retired from police work and is a private detective now. He has two missing persons cases, one an adopted woman who is looking for her Navajo birth parents and the other a young woman who has been known to disappear and return. It's a pretty good read. Ms Hillerman's writing is very straightforward and simple so quick to read. There is no sex and very little romance even between the married couple. Her books are PG rated with no cussing either though there is murder and violence. I like the descriptions of Native American life and you always learn something.

Today I finished "Network Effect" which is one of the Murderbot series. This one was a regular sized book so took a bit longer to read and it was full of all kinds of complicated tech. I was very happy that Murderbot and ART were reunited! Love this series!

I'm reading two non-fiction books at the moment. The one I'm reading today is called Joyspan: A Short Guide to Enjoying your Long Life. Dr Kerry Burnight.

I finished my last Murderbot book, "Fugitive Telemetry" which was another short one and now I have to wait for the library to find the last one. Then will be the long wait for the new one!

The library had the Murderbot book, "System Collapse", so I read it this afternoon. It was a short one and now I wait until May for the new one. I still have to finish season one of the TV show then wait for season two.

Today I read "Annie Bot" by Sierra Greer. In the future world of AI robots, Annie is a Cuddle Bunny version of bots that can be purchased. Not hard to figure out what her purpose is. There are also housekeeper bots and nanny bots and other types of workers. These robots look human and some advanced models, as Annie is, are sentient and able to learn and advance in their intelligence. This short book is essentially a very strange love story with lots of sex as that is Annie's main job. It's a pretty good book and a quick read.

This just popped into my Available list so I have started it - so far it is grabbing my attention. Thank you for the recommendation.
