News US taxes and spending at all-time highs

Well, no one likes tax increases, but if you going to increase spending, it makes sense to have a corresponding (one for one) increase in taxes (revenues). Obviously 7 vs. 9% isn't one for one, but it's close.

Nonetheless, I would like to see wasteful spending reduced or eliminated. But of course, wasteful spending to one person is vital spending to someone else, and with the addition of pet projects and earmarks, etc, make it almost impossible to achieve real savings.

Our taxes are plenty high, especially on the middle and lower classes. The main problem is that we insist on waging wars throughout the world and we support over 900 military bases and vast nuclear arsenals. 53% of our federal budget (medicare and social security excluded since they have their own taxes) goes towards "national defense", aka war, well over what any other nation in the world spends.

I imagine that veg*ns tend to be anti-war, at least those who do it for ethical reasons. After all, if we value the lives of animals equally, shouldn't we also value the lives of those living in distant lands? No one ever counts those bodies though...

You'd be surprised how many veg*ns are anti-human....especially the "ethical" ones.
