TV & Film The TV Room

The Walton's is over 😭 I didn't even enjoy the last 4-5 episodes. They were sorely la king without a lot of the original cast members.

Now I'm watching little house on the prairie. The 2 hour pilot was good! But I'm not sure why I like watching these shows...they make me cry every single day, between babies dying, dogs getting sick, the raccoon with rabies, fire destroying homes they built with their own two hands, not to mention crops...that they depend on to survive... being destroyed by Weather. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ It's so depressing, the hardships they endured. And don't even get me started on mean old Mrs. Olsen and Nellie lol 🤣

I just finished Strike, season 6, The Ink Black Heart.

I read the book almost 3 years ago. With my faulty memory I couldn't remember whodunit till the last episode. So I think I enjoyed it as much as if I hadn't read the book.

I the book got only so-so reviews. most of the concern was with its length. which I agreed with. Normally I read books on my kindle so it doesn't matter how much they weigh. But because of the dual column way they displayed text room chats, the e-reader version was illegible. (I heard they fixed that in latter versions). So I had to get the hard cover and because the book was over 1000 pages I had to read it at my desk - could not read in on the sofa without my hands and arms getting tired.

the only complaint I've heard about the tv show, besides the push back on Rawling's political views, is that it is overlay complicated. I've also seem some criticism of the theme being too "on the nose". The theme is online hate. I loved the complexity and the detectives determined to solve this with their wits alone.

The best thing about the TV show are the main characters. If the was an award for best casting - this show would be a 6 time winner.
Whatever misgiving about how long they were going to explore the will they - won't -they nature of their relationship has mostly gone away. Maybe it died of old age.

I discovered that I had never watched season five of "The Handmaid's Tale". so started watching it. So disturbing!
I read the book twice (once in HS and once in college). I hated it both times. Not the writing - but the content. And I don't think I would like it any better now. but I've only heard good things about the TV show. Still not going to watch it, tho.
I'm a big fan of the actress who was President Bartlett's daughter on the West wing, and Peggy on Mad Men.

I did google The Residence. I was getting confused with The Resident show as that is with the actor from The Good Wife and Gilmore Girls.

I read the books (there is a sequel) a few years ago and watched the series when it came on. 40 years from publication, we are seeing signs of Gilead today. Scary stuff!

It was published in 1985 so it is the 40th anniversary.
oh! That is so wierd. I have such a clear recollection of reading it for school. (Which was the 70s). I guess my brain is now creating memories to make up for the ones I have lost.

maybe... in the 90s I was working in a school. may have had to re-read it for a class.

it is the Mandela Effect - in a separate life thread she wrote it in the 60's 🤣

We watched two more episodes of the second season of Boss last night. I realised I have Buffy on Paramount plus so I just started the first episode. Sarah Michelle Gellar looks so young!

we watched a Canadian series on Netflix - North of North - takes place in a small town in the territory of Nunavut and it is a comedy with short episodes so we binged it all in one evening over Easter - an interesting insight into the Inuk culture and the challenges they face - it may be renewed for a second season, we'll have to see, I hope for the sake of the town and the actors that it does

Still 😭 over little house. They can't catch a break! 😭
Sad or tragic fiction doesn't bother me; I just remind myself that it's not real. But I don't enjoy reading or watching it. The "Harry Potter" stories would have been very different if Voldemort and the Death Eaters had not been written into them, and probably shorter as well. But I think they could have still been enjoyable. And my favorite episodes of "Star Trek" were usually the ones where nobody got killed: the episodes with tribbles; "Mudd's Women"; etc.

I guess I feel like it was real for people living in that era. So that's what it makes me think about. What a crazy hard life.
