The Everything Oatmeal thread

When I cook oatmeal, I like it pretty thick. That may be my issue with overnight oats...there is too much milk left and the oats don't get that nice sticky texture that I like. I never added flax meal or ground chia...maybe I should try that. I did try hemp seeds. They were just ok.

It's because you're adding to much liquid. When I make Bircher muesli, I like to add either diluted apple juice or water and add either yogurt or cream just before serving. It's definitely thick and creamy.

I had some porridge for breakfast yesterday but can't say that I really enjoyed it. It's good for you and I had nothing else that was ready to eat.

I knew someone was going to say that lol 😉 I usually follow a recipe and add whatever ingredient amounts are suggested.

But honestly, even when the milk gets absorbed the oats still have a different texture from cooked. That's likely my problem. Sometimes I try too hard to like something because I love the idea of it. It's like, I want to like overnight oats so bad lol. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't follow recipes! It makes me sort of chuckle to see so many recipes for Bircher muesli! Let your imagination kick in!

I only follow recipes when I don't know what I'm doing and I clearly don't when it comes to overnight oats lol.

So many things I don't like I can understand others liking--but not overnight oats.

I came across this recipe and need to try. I've made similar but never like this process. Curious how much difference it makes
I made this last night and just cooked it along with tofu. Crazy good!
1 Cup rolled oats
1/4 cup lions mane mushroom powder
2 Tblsp nooch
Vegeta, poultry seasoning, liquid smoke and crushed red pepper
Cooked till really thick and all absorbed then wrapped in foil and fridged for the night.
today it didn't slice well, but did hold together in big pieces and I cooked in about a Tblsp of oil with crumbled tofu and a sprinkle of brown sugar.
Came out just like sausage crumbles and the texture was chewy and I thought like sausage--at least like Beyond breakfast sausage which I love
I'd say the long cooking and rest really made a difference
I'll add some vwg next time maybe
