^^^ I love ELO! When I was in highschool in the 70's I entered a dance marathon where they played this song as the sun rose the next morning...

I remember listening to 'Eldorado' backwards and loving it. (Listening for satanic messages). Yes - the whole freaking record - it's creepy as hell but damn - it still works.

Premiere: The Coup, 'The Magic Clap'
Political rappers rally the youth with soul and grit

The Coup's biting political lyrics have long raised eyebrows but on "The Magic Clap," the rap group gives a more lighthearted take on FBI interrogation. MC Boots Riley is apprehended by suits before Pam the Funkstress steps in to free him, letting the hero escape on a bike. "The Magic Clap" snaps and shakes with Riley's soulful flow and a gritty, funky bassline.

"'The Magic Clap' is about a quantitative to qualitative leap, an imaginary sound that happens in the moment when thought turns to action. The lyrics of this song reflect my desire to not simply write clever lyrics, but to write songs filled with passion," Riley tells Rolling Stone. "We made this video in my neighborhood in West Oakland. It's an absolutely true story based on the time I was apprehended by the FBI while performing, tortured and then [saved by] Pam the Funkstress. The bike I ride in the video is the one I get around Oakland on."

"The Magic Clap" is on the Coup's upcoming album, Sorry to Bother You, set for release on October 30th.

The Head and the Heart are really good at music:

Anyone else remember this one by Eric Carmen and the Raspberries? Such a great tune...

In belated honor of talk like a pirate day:

Red Queen - Leigh Ann Hussey

I guess this would be called neofolk:

Sol Invictus - An English Garden.

Good song, but with dark undertones in the lyrics.

"Victoria sits upon her throne
And when we fall, we'll fall like Rome"

I know Sol Invictus. Been ages since I heard any, though. Excellent song

I wish I was a fisherman
tumbling on the sea
far away from dry land
and its bitter memories
casting out my sweet line
with abandonment and love
no cieling bearing down on me
save the starry sky above
with Light in my head
and you in my arms

I wish I was the brakeman
on a hurtling, fevered train
crashing headlong into the heartland
like a cannon in the rain
with the beating of the sleepers
and the burning of the coal
counting the towns flashing by
in a night that's full of soul
with Light in my head
and you in my arms

I know I will be loosened
from the bonds that hold me fast
that the chains all hung around me
will fall away at last
and on that fine and fateful day
I will take me in my hands
I will ride on the train
I will be the fisherman
with Light in my head
and you in my arms
