I've seen ads for only a couple of local candidates; there hasn't been a flood of them. This is still only primary season, however. Once the primaries are over, I expect to see more of them polluting the airwaves.
In 2012 we in California were spared an onslaught of Republican ads because California as a blue state was seen, correctly, as a lock for Obama. I have no idea what we'll see later this year, though.
ETA: OTOH, for a few weeks now I've been pulling tons and tons and tons of political ads out of my mailbox. I've only kept a couple because they were endorsements of candidates I wasn't sure about. Most of them go right into the recycling bin.
