I decided to watch Dominion with my sisters as i’ve been vegan for just over 8 months and after watching it myself, i felt it’d help them be more understanding and realise how serious animal exploitation is.

I’d been talking about wanting to watch it with them for over a month but decided to wait until my other sister was visiting so we could watch it all together. The sister i live with is great and supportive about my being vegan, although she isn’t vegan herself, we have discussions/debates about veganism, she is always respectful and we are always able to bring our points across. She also is eager to try what i make and regularly eats the seitan i make, she actually looks forward to eating them. She also knows how important it is for me so she acts accordingly, as do i for things that mean a lot to her.

My other sister came to visit and i thought it’d be great for us to watch Dominion because she seems quite cruel in the jokes she makes sometimes about me being vegan or just passing comments. I thought it was because she really did not understand the extent of how serious it was. So we start watching the documentary and not even half an hour in, she falls asleep. I’ll be honest, i was quite upset at this because i couldn’t understand how someone could just fall asleep while watching animals get tortured. But anyways she goes to bed, without even apologising that she had fallen asleep. I chalk it up to her being tired and pushed away my anger because ultimately, i would rather we watch it another time so she still gets educated on it. We attempt to watch it 2 days later, but she decided to talk a nap at the agreed time we said we would watch it, and then decided to have a shower delaying it even further but no matter because we push it to the evening. Then 20 mins in, i see her falling asleep again but decide not to say anything. Shes fully dozing off another 20 mins so i decide to switch it off, she insists that we carry on watching but whats the point if she isn’t even watching? I mean i've already watched it, so why would i want to rewatch animals getting suffered if there’s no point to it. She then gets up and goes to sleep. At this point she’s already had a nap early in the day, so i can’t even say it’s because of that. I really don’t understand and it’s really hurting my feelings. It’s making me look at her differently because she acts as if she doesn’t care about this at all, and can’t even be bothered to stay awake for it. Anyways, i won’t be attempting to watch it with her again.

Well that was unexpected.
I don't recommend watching films like Dominion or Speciesism with non-vegans.
Instead something a little lighter and positive.
I just loved Cowspiracy and What the Health!

or maybe a movie that isn't entirely about veganism like Big Food or the Omnivores Dilemma

here is a good list
