I bought one of those aerosol olive oil spritzers in the store. It ran out and when I went back I was looking at the similar products and realized that the oil spritzer was cheaper than a similar sized bottle of olive oil, but per fluid ounce, it was way more expensive.

Anyway, the next shelf had these little reusable oil sprayers. They were pretty expensive so when I got home I checked on Amazon. Amazon has like 370 different models and kinds. From under $10 to over $20. And the reviews were all over the place. You know, from ⭐️ "Doesn't work", to ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ " Works great".

My main concern is how well they mist as opposed to spray, how often they get gunked up, and how easy they are to clean. It seems to me that the ones that have a pump action where it gets pressurized with air would work better than the ones that just have a single action trigger - like an atomizer. But I don't know.

does anyone have one of these? How does it work? what kind is it? etc.

Back when I used to use oil, I can remember having bought one of those. It got gunked up really quickly, and we never bought another one. It seemed like a good idea in theory, but in practice it kind of sucked. I'm not sure if they've improved the technology since then, but since I no longer use oil I suppose I'll not be finding out.

This old thread popped up at the bottom of the page and I felt like responding. 🙃

I had one quite a few years ago. Bought it off amazon. Loved it for about a week and then it clogged and I couldn't unclog it. I was so disappointed. I've been hesitant to try again.

I just tried Costco's avocado oil in a spray can. I love it. It's like the product Pam...supposed to be zero calories. Then I started researching these zero calorie sprays because it didn't seem possible. Come to find out it isn't lol unless you actually do 1/4 of a spray or something like that.

it is misleading advertising but its not that wrong. It's cause the FDA allows for rounding down. But so what if it's 0 or just 1 calories.
However they do it with trans fat on the labels too. in that case 1 g is a concern.

The other thing is you really should do the math. Calculate the cost per oz. When you do that you might want to take a second look at the spritzers.

Yes I did a whole read up on it. I'm glad I know now though. I had been spraying a good bit in the pan, especially the avocado one. And I can really do with a lot less. The result is the same.

I bought a really nice one and quickly broke it. I actually wish it were plastic, or best bet, stainless steel.
I saved the sprayer hoping to find a jar that will fit.. Olive jar is the right size, but not threads.

I had one that used a pump but that clogged.
I refuse to pay for sprays, and they get all sticky
I've been keeping my olive oil in the fridge

I did use a regular spray bottle some years back. it worked, I forget why I stopped

I also am tired of sprayers that don't work for long and the expense of the prepackaged. As I prefer to use only a minimal amount of oil I came up with the finger solution. I just pour the amount (usually a 1/4 tsp or so) into the pan and then spread it around with my finger until the bottom is covered. Works just fine. I used to use a paper towel and realized that I was just losing most of the oil to the towel.

I do that for greasing pans, but do like a spray if baking things. I guess I could do a jar and brush contraption

I don't like the brush either as the oil goes into it and not on the pan - I do the finger thing for pans or usually just use parchment paper.

Agree, and I often do the same with the finger solution.

Got a two pack of Misto brand and have used one of them for over ten years and it still works. Doesn't mist anymore but it's been so long that I can't remember if it ever misted. It does a stream of olive oil. just fine though. It's never gunked up the nozzle when using EVOO. Some oils that are not good quality, or just a different kind of seed oil or different processing method, will gunk up nozzles. HTH
