I am writing to share an important product notice regarding our Vega All-In-One Nutrition Bars, Vega Sport Protein Bars, Endurance Bars, Vibrancy Bars and Whole Food Energy Bars.
We deeply value our customers and dedicated fans, and feel it's very important that you receive this information as quickly as possible.
We respect that for many of you, plant-based living is not just a diet—it's a lifestyle. We share these values. We also recognize many of you have special dietary needs, and you trust us to deliver products that align with your needs and choices. At Vega, we take this responsibility very seriously.
Recently, we learned of the presence of trace amounts of milk in one lot code of our Vega Sport Protein bars in Canada (Lot #12296C). We immediately issued a voluntary withdrawal of the product from the market. Next, we took immediate steps to test all lot codes of our bars above and beyond what is required in Canada and the United States.
As a result of this testing, we found additional bar lots that may contain trace amounts of milk, and thus do not live up to your—or our—product standards. None of these bars pose any risk to the general population and only have trace amounts of milk—in fact, the maximum amount of milk ingredients found in 1 bar was less than the equivalent of 1/8th of a pinch of fine salt. As an extra precaution, we will be voluntarily withdrawing all these bar lots from the market, whether they are affected or not.
Anyone with a severe milk allergy is recommended not to consume the bars from these lot codes.
All of the bars from the lot codes listed below are completely safe for the general population.
Moving forward, in addition to the testing that our suppliers already perform, we will be instituting further layers of testing at all stages of Vega production. We will also be revising our bar packaging and expanding our allergen information to include "May contain dairy" on the label to further help customers with severe milk allergies make informed decisions.
We want to assure you that all of Vega's product formulations are completely plant-based and always will be. Nothing has changed. We stand behind our formulator, Brendan Brazier's, founding nutritional principles, and will constantly strive to uphold them in everything we do.
