ETA: By the way, those previous two posted songs were wonderful. The Celtic group has a Days of the New feel to me, which I rather like. The second one reminds me of a wonderful performer I saw at Bonnaroo named Haale. I ended up buying two of her albums. Thank you for sharing these, you guys.

What do my fellow nerds think of the new Steven Wilson LP? I've recently 'acquired' it and think it's very good. Very, very good.

Oooooh, jealous! Mine has not arrived yet, and I am trying so hard not to "acquire" it, lol. I am glad to hear that it's good. I haven't heard a note yet. I am going to try very hard to wait until my official copy arrives. We'll see how that goes, though, hahaha.

What do my fellow nerds think of the new Steven Wilson LP? I've recently 'acquired' it and think it's very good. Very, very good.

So between life, trips and general busy-ness, I haven't given this a good spin yet. That said, I saw Mr. Wilson in NYC where some of the new material was played. Let's just say I'll be giving this a listen very soon. It strikes me as a different take on some traditional methods (more guitar solos, for example). It had a very large sound to me, at least the heavier stuff. And I loved all of it. The saddest song was Routine, and I actually cried. The video accompanying this was very powerful, even though it was a claymation-type thing. He really does a great job pairing video with the music. He should write a soundtrack or something. I'll bet it would be awesome.

SW also played some songs off his other solo records as well. We had a rather nice surprise on Friday: He did his Thank U cover version, and he totally nailed it. He sounded amazing. I so love that Cover Version. I really like the band he put together for this tour. Nick Beggs is a beast on the bass and the keyboard player, whose name escapes me, was fantastic.

What also struck me was how "rock star-ish" he was. He was chatty (!), joking around a lot and dropping a number of f-bombs. Mostly when I've seen him either with PT or on the solo tours, he's all about playing and performing. He actually encouraged people to fist-pump and hoot and holler and stand and cheer solos, lol. It was definitely different, but in a good way. I think he's letting loose a bit now that PT seems to be over. When he played How Is Your Life Today (another lovely surprise), he mentioned that when he was with "the band" it was a political issue to play that song because it was essentially a solo. He then noted that now he "could do whatever the ****" he wanted. LOL! I'll bet that ****** off some of the hard-core PT fans, hehe. What a great weekend, though. I'm still on a high from the shows.

I play music. Though I do not get paid for it, or do it necessarily well, It's what I do. (Just because you can drive nails into a board doesn't make you a carpenter.) But listening to and playing music is a pleasure that is essential to my well being. A meditation of sorts.

'Cellophane' is a song I recently wrote and recorded. It was created like a lot of songs. You start out with a simple riff played over and over until it says something - and then you start writing those somethings down until they begin to resemble meaning, or to tell a story. And you sit in a room with a guitar or whatever, and you play that story out loud to yourself and you throw away pieces and take it apart and put it back together and knock it down again until it is what it is and all the extra paint, polish, words or notes aren't going to matter anymore. The final step one has to take is letting the song go and part of that is sharing it with the world, because this signifies the process of writing it has come to an end. It can be a scary experience. The world has higher priorities and better things to do than to listen x song by x person in an ever expanding universe of readily available songs. I am not special. But this metamorphosis cannot be side-stepped, and this one has reached the end of its journey. So take it or leave it - here it is, world.

The key challenge an independent musician faces these days is simply getting potential listeners to click PLAY. Just that much is huge.

Dedalus, it sounds really good. Vocals especially are solid, often the downfall of aspiring artists. Keep it up, you definitely have talent and a gift for crafting tunes.
