  1. Vegan newbie
I've been vegan for 15 days now. Today, I had a veg burger at McDonald's and another at Burger King, both of which contained a little mayo. I just read that mayo contains egg yolk. Should I tell the staff next time not to put mayo in my burger? While I don't want to hurt animals, I also don't want to be a pain in the ***.

It is really not being "a pain in the ***" to voice your preferences. I never liked mayo before I was veg and you can say to leave it off. :)

Looks like PETA has already answered my question on their website.
We discourage vegans from grilling waiters at restaurants about micro-ingredients in vegetarian foods (e.g., a tiny bit of a dairy product in the bun of a veggie burger). Doing so makes being vegan seem difficult and dogmatic to your friends and to restaurant staff, thus discouraging them from going vegan themselves (which really hurts animals).

the best veggie burger I ever had was at shake shack. but its not vegan

To order a vegan burger at Shake Shack, get the Veggie Shack and modify it by removing the American cheese, ShackSauce, and crispy fried onions, while swapping the standard potato roll for a gluten-free bun or lettuce wrap

. still the best.

Just ask for no mayo, seriously, that's not being a pain, that's literally what "no mayo please" is for. Staff hear special requests all day long, yours won't even register as unusual. Fifteen days in and you're already catching these little things — that's the whole game, honestly, nobody expects perfection on day one.

Here is my delicious mayo recipe
INGREDIENTS

½ cup malt free soy milk

1 cup unrefined cold pressed sunflower oil

1 to 2 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp salt or more to taste

2 tsp apple cider vinegar

METHOD

1. Place the soy milk in a blender then place the rest of the ingredients and blend for less than a minute.

I've always used an immersion blender--same proportions of soy milk and oil, but I slowly drizzle in the oil while blending. I find this way makes a better emulsion
I use powdered mustard, and both lemon and vinegar-and salt!

Mayo is my base for all kinds of sauces, as well as subbing for butter

I have made this with aquafaba, and while the first time was ok the second time was awful! I'm sticking with soy milk
Curious about the 'malt' free. I've never seen that here, but just plain soy milk is only like 3 brands of shelf stable
