I've been vegan for seven weeks now and am noticing that I am losing weight very nicely thank you. I put on a bit (well, rather a lot) when I went vegetarian a few years ago, but cutting out the dairy has made a real difference.

I just wondered if anyone else has been through this, and how long they lost weight for before the body got accustomed to the new way of eating.

I think everyone entering veganism will lose a bit of weight eventually, I've been vegan for almost a year now and I've dropped roughly half a stone! I'm still well within the BMI for my age :)

I maintained my weight as a vegan, but that's because I was already at a healthy BMI and wasn't eating junk food. The transition lasted a few months.

Healthy vegan food is generally less calorie dense than other foods. It might simply be that you are not eating enough. Try tracking yourself on www.cronometer.com or watch a few videos on YouTube about what raw vegans and fruitarians eat... it might be something of a 'wake-up call'.

Thank you, I will check my calorie intake, I hadn't thought of that, although I try not to be on a diet as such, just to eat well. I think it will be some time before I get near to a healthy BMI, I'm looking forward to it. My niece is a raw vegan and juices a lot. She keeps trying to make my sister healthier. I'm still getting my head around all the different foods available to vegans and what to do with them. I've always loved the idea of being a fruitarian and then a breatharian,

Have you tried Raw 'Til 4? I'm thinking of doing it myself (though not to lose weight). I already eat one raw meal a day, but I'd like to further improve the balance between the cooked and uncooked foods that I eat. Anyway, if you go raw it will cut out lots of the vegan constituent foods that make it harder to shed pounds if that's what you're after.

Better than calorie restriction!

I will look at these. I would rather eat healthier than diet any day. I'm still learning about all the ways of using lots of new foods I haven't tried before. Thanks for the links.

Raw crackers, have you got a dehydrator? For someone who hates cooking as much as I do this could be the way forward.

I confess, I have not yet got a dehydrator but it has long been on my shopping list.
Yep, it's a great way to eat if you don't like to cook!

it takes me a year to get used to a new way of eating. First I lost weight quite fast but after a half of a year it started to normalize. Now my body feels good and stable :)

My weight has stayed the same but my fat % has reduced slightly which is a good thing.
My diet is pretty similar as I made meals from scratch and used plenty of pulses/veg.

I do exercise daily, it's part of my routine to get up early and do it. Keeps me mentally positive and focused too.

You will probably lose weight a little fast at first, but then slow. I only lost 5 pounds when i want vegan. And i ate healthy before that. It is true for some people, not all people though. It really depends on how you are eating now. Losing weight quickly is not healthy.
