Four More Years!

I was quietly doing my internal happy dance at work this evening. :pickle:

Wasn't happy about prop 37 either. But no surprise. Wouldn't want to cost "American families" another $400.00 a year in food costs. Just stuff those little kiddies full of franken-food.

Didn't she state that she was going to retire ?

Yes - she's not going to serve as SoS during the second term. But she has actually been rather circumspect in her responses with respect to another presidential bid.

I woke up this morning and jumped up to turn on the news. You must all be so relieved!:bp:

Oh, and apparently marijuana use has been legalized in Colorado. Not just medical pot. Pot pot.
Let's all move to Colorado. :p
ETA: According to Google, recreational pot was also legalized in Washington State.

Gotta say Im a little saddened by some pictures Ive seen of women being upset Romney lost...the man damn near wanted to send them all back to the 40's...

Yeah...the 1840's.

Paul Ryan, unfortunately, was able to hold onto his seat in the House. He's going to do his damndest to keep pushing his regressive ideas onto the rest of the country for the next four years.

The New World Order must be smiling right now. My guess as to what will happen:America's population will continue to rise. This will cause a crisis within the next 20 years that will involve millions of deaths. Finally Americans will realize that third party candidates are the best option. Until a crisis occurs I expect the brainwashing to continue and Americans will fall for it.

Hey, who let the party pooper in here?

(rf is right, but I'm not in a cynical mood at the moment. Please let us enjoy this victory a little while longer)

They never will.

Yeah that's still frightening and very concerning. :(

Many times what a President says and what they do are entirely different. I recall Obama promising a big raise in the minimum wage. One of the many promises he has made that he hasn't lived up to. Any claims about what a Romney administration would have done is purely a guessing game.

Any claims about anything that could have happened but didn't is a guessing game.

Unless, of course, one can travel to parallel dimensions.

New World Order? Doesn't there have to be an Old World Order first? Or ANY world order? Seriously, stop making the Independents look like morons with this History Channel ********. I voted independent and even I'm happy Mittens didn't win. :sigh:

I voted Green Party but even I realize they may be complete failures if they were elected. Ideally politicians would make promises and be sent out of office if they broke their promises. Since that doesn't apply it's just a guessing game. You never know whether a Presidential candidate is making a claim to appeal to their party or whether they're being serious. It's for these reasons that Democracy will always be a failure.

Kent Mesplay (Green party candidate that lost the nomination to Jill Stein) made a somewhat interesting Facebook post (nothing revolutionary, but interesting nonetheless) in the midst of the election.

I'll /spoiler it so you don't all have to read it if you don't want, it's a bit lengthy.

Register, Vote, Run Green!

Congratulations to Jill Stein for achieving the Green Party nomination, raising more money than previous Green Party presidential candidates (put together), and demonstrating courage by standing up for the oppressed and being arrested by daring to gain entrance to “real” presidential debates. Cheri Honkala, too, deserves wide-spread respect.

And then, there is Roseanne Barr to thank, too. Her celebrity support and fan base brought much-needed attention to the Greens, bringing visibility. This ultimately helped Dr. Stein’s campaign.

I also want to thank the California voters who awarded me with 11% of the Green vote in our primary, even though there were no robo-calls, no mass-mailings of flyers, and we had the usual media avoidance of independent parties.

What most people don’t realize is that we could have had a Green president. Green solutions are good for the economy, the environment, and independence. Roughly half the eligible-to-vote people in the U.S.A (understandably) don’t bother to register to vote. Of those registered (i.e. the other half), a good turn-out would be about half of those. So, give or take some fractional adjustments, about a quarter of the pie determines who gets to be the big cheese. Party bosses of the Ds and the Rs don’t want you to know this. Your vote is powerful, and your participation is vital. If you missed this General Election, then “vote” by registering Green (or Mountain Party in West Virginia, our affiliate there). Don’t be invisible. We are hungry for real change in the political process. This change is not coming from the top, down; it is growing from the grassroots, up. Sprout!

In three presidential races (2004, 2008 and 2012), I’ve come in third: a runner-up to the runner-up. I work, full-time. Even in the Green Party, it’s the green you raise that makes the difference…beginning with home-base. I have incurred personal debt, expressed as campaign debt, by helping organize the party on weekends, and by traveling to debates that at least help provide the semblance of competition in Green Party presidential nominations. No more; not without your help. In the way that guys are usually not good about asking for directions, I have not been proficient at raising the funds that would allow me to run full time, to actually run for the first time.

This is where you come in. Your ongoing monthly support will make it possible for me to run, and will help the Green Party reach more people.

Back to “the economy, the environment, and independence:” The dirty, dark secret about green solutions is that they work. That’s the problem. Our culture is one of wasteful consumption and planned obsolescence. Green solutions help us downsize while maintaining a core level of sustenance, improving basic physical security in the essentials of water, food, shelter and energy. If people grew more of their own food, had wiser use of water and watersheds, and lived, worked and played in and around energy-efficient structures and transportation systems, they would have greater emergency preparedness, resilience and self-reliance, and more vibrant neighborhoods. When people are allowed and supported in taking care of themselves, there is less need for government intervention. The current system promotes waste, corruption, dependence, entitlement, and war.

In 2004, I spoke of “raising the baseline of basic physical security.” Upon this “reset” or “zero-shift,” we can still have the finer elements of reward through competition. But, the baseline would be an abundance of food, shelter and medical care for those who need and request it. This is not over-all expensive, when we pool our resources and exercise the political will to do so.

In 2008, I introduced a “Green New Deal,” which others had suggested to me. A federal jobs program could go a long way toward transforming us to being a more just and sustainable society. But, this approach requires national consensus, federal leadership, and smarter use of tax revenues…all highly unlikely from a Democrat and Republican Congress, bent on partisan politics and fear-mongering, and unaccustomed to promoting independence and efficiency. Green solutions require full-cycle thinking and accountability: beyond the reach of most politicians.

In 2012, I used my limited resources to again promote the security-enhancing features of sustainability, and to caution that we can’t wait for a Green New Deal to spring from the government. The way forward is to recognize that our political system is part of the problem (we know; we work to change it), and that we must have Citizens in Action to bypass the power brokers. We do this through local, voluntary, creative, alternative economics. This is where we are now: we either pressure and educate the president and Congress to change their ways and re-direct tax revenues toward green job training, or we skip that step, look into the mirror and say to ourselves, “I am president of my own actions. I refuse to buy into a crazy situation. Where is my garden?” There is much that we-the-people can and must do.

Throughout my campaign, I have been an advocate for indigenous people. The way Native people are typically treated throughout the world is unethical. Beginning here at home, it is important that the government stop trying to take yet more away from First Nations people, such as sacred sites, water rights, treaty rights and other features of sovereignty. In the years to come, this type of work will be my focus. I have advisors and teachers from among the Hopi, the Dineh (Navajo) and the Lakota. During my adult life, my “specialty” has been with Guardian Teachings. My instruction is to now take this public, for the good of all people. It is not the climate that has to change. It is us. The predominant culture is disconnected and unbalanced, with technology eclipsing humanity.

I have been talking about the climate for a long time. Sandy was no surprise at all. Many people believe that pollution of the air, done by humans, has led to climatic instability, unpredictability and severity. Some do not, regarding carbon emissions as a non-issue. But, carbon emissions are an issue from a stand-point of preserving natural beauty by leaving coal and oil in the ground and letting trees stand. The insistence of business and government to casually allow carbon emissions also can be interpreted as an affront to independence and self-reliance, because it keeps us from developing and choosing cleaner, responsible, full-cycle methods of greatly reduced consumption.

Green Party: We are here to Stay.
