Chocolate cravings after just 6 days of being vegan

So I've been vegan since July 1. I feel great that I'm reducing animal suffering by a tiny amount, and this has given me a purpose in life. But it has required tremendous self-control, and I won't deny that I do crave chocolate bars, all of which contain dairy here.

Congrats on your decision! Yep, cravings can be intense and difficult to stave off, but I would always try to think of the animals when I got a craving for a non-veg food. I haven't really had such cravings in a long time, which is good, but every now and again, like at a family gathering, I sometimes wish I didn't have to basically prepare my whole meal because there aren't usually any vegan options (except for my mom, who always thinks of me, lol).

welcome to the forum - I would be very surprised if you don't have even accidentally vegan chocolate bars or chocolate chips as most darker chocolates don't have milk in them - that's what we do, I keep a bag of dark chocolate chips in the freezer and we have just a few with nuts for dessert - yesterday we added prunes to the day so for dessert we had 4 almonds, 1 brazil nut, 2 prunes and about 10 chocolate chips

I've had dark chocolate bars in the past and they tasted bitter, not sweet.

It's really not the same thing; plain/dark chocolate compared to milk chocolate. We don't have pb milk chocolate over here so I usually stock up with some when I'm in the UK. They have loads of different brands and bars in all of the shops.

yes, 70% is the lower end of the scale where the sweet starts to stop and 90% is very unpleasant to me - I do like the 70-80% and you could always melt it slightly and add berries, banana or something else sweet to it

I'm the same way.
I found some not-to-expensive organic free trade dark chocolate bars at the supermarket. 65% is pretty good. And the ones that are higher - they add stuff like fruit or nuts that really help.

They say that dark chocolate is actually good for you. Since I gave up coffee I have been indulging myself with a little dark chocolate after breakfast.

@IndianVegan, did a little research on your part.

I guess tastebuds can be subjective, but I have found lots of dark chocolate options that are delicious. I never used to like dark chocolate, but once I started trying different ones, I really came to enjoy it. Also, the lower the percentage of cacao, the sweeter and less bitter the dark chocolate is. I typically don't get anything over 72% cacao. LIke, 80% or 90% is kind of bitter. I do prefer to taste the chocolate over the sugar. I wouldn't eat vegan milk chocolate because now I find that type of chocolate way too sugary.
