Baking soda V baking powder?

Baking soda and baking powder are both leavening agents, but are different. Baking soda needs acidic ingredient like lemon juice, yogurt, or vinegar to react, while baking powder already have acid and can work on its own when mixed with liquid and heat.

i'm not sure although thanks for the friendly advice

i always thought bicarb soda was pure and more strength that was usually used for eco laundry detergents (yet food grade otherwise on it's own)

whilst baking powder was a diluted version better for baking as that is what recipe books usually quote (possibly based on what you mention above :)
