What Did You Cook or Bake today?

I found a few recipes online...I may try one. They look good and I especially like that the recipes are easy.

They are easy peasy to make and the recipe is usually what children first start off with when learning how to bake. They go back to the Vicotrian times and were popular during both WW1 and 2 when food was rationed. Do u remember the recipe book? 😎 Whatever you do, don’t add baking soda or over mix 😁.

Going crazy with sourdough bread baking. I made 6 loaves this past week...the first two failed (but were edible), the third was good. I made the fourth a cinnamon loaf and that failed. Then I successfully baked a regular and a cinnamon.

So hard figuring out what I'm doing wrong. I think I over fermented the failed loaves which is normally hard to do, but it's been hot again and I'm used to baking in cold temps.

I like sourdough but hated making the starter
I'm planning another pinto bean cake using the spices I did for pumpkin cake (I hope I wrote them down o_O)

I made brownies and oatmeal energy bites. I tinkered with the brownie recipe to make them more cakey. I cut down on the melted chocolate by half and added a couple of more tablespoons of flour. We'll see how they come out.

Dang it.... I made the pinto beans cake I made before, and we all loved, but yet again, didn't write down how I made it in my copymethat.
This time I followed the recipe, just leaving out the egg, and it's not the same.
After the fact of course, I thought to look here, and sure enough, I added baking powder, flax, and vinegar :unamused:
I guess it's okay, but it's not the higher cake, but more of a bean Blondie. I can really taste the beans in this one

If you are really interested you can ask in a local community group for some starter. People are usually excited to share their starter. Of course, you would then need to maintain it unless you were just going to get enough starter for a loaf of bread and not continue going forward.

You can also buy starter online, like from the King Arthur flour company.

Bear in mind, that raw flour shouldn't be consumed. :)

The next day in fridge is much better, I really didn't notice a bean taste. I would add nuts next time.
Funny how much I always taste chickpeas in everything, but not pintos. I even made something with great northern and it tasted beany

Yep. I actually baked them for an extra few minutes. I think the gooey texture comes from the amount of melted chocolate in them. They did come out more cakey, but I still will tinker to get them even more cakey. I just love the flavor of this recipe.

I wanted buffalo tofu wings for dinner tonight, but I didn't take the tofu out of the freezer in time, so I'm going to make them later and have them tomorrow. I'm going to make a ranch dip for them as well.

Made a really nice wheat bread. It actually slices and holds it's shape for sandwiches, which is something I've always struggled with.
Actually followed the recipe
I used 2 Tblsp brown sugar for honey
