I read another older (2013) Nora Roberts book called "Whiskey Beach." I enjoyed it. Her typical good character development, family drama, romance, and murder with a pirate treasure thrown in.

I have two books to report today! This afternoon, since it rained and spoiled my plans, I read "Open and Shut" by David Rosenfelt. This is the first of the Andy Carpenter series and was really good. It was a bit dated as it was published in 2003 but that did not affect the great twisty story.
I also read "We are all guilty here" by Karin Slaughter. Though she is a new thriller writer to me, she has written many books and several are TV shows. The most well known is Will Trent which I haven't watched. She also has a couple of Netflix series. This was a really good mystery and family drama about kidnapped teen girls. I will read more of her books as I find them at the library.

Over the weekend, I got "House of Fire and Magic" by Sherrilyn Kenyon out of the library. It appears to be the start of a new fantasy series with humans, dragons, unicorns, elves, and magic. Meh. I don't think I'll bother with any sequels- the characters weren't very appealing. I haven't read anything else by this author yet, but apparently she's written quite a few books.

As I am a fan of fantasy, I picked up "The Sword of Light" by Heather Graham who is a very well known author. This was just ok; it did not "grab" me and was kind of boring. Typical quest adventure, good against evil, young heroes who become romantically involved. All the basics of a decent read but did not fulfill that for me. I think Ms. Graham is not so good at this genre. LOL

heather graham has over 100 novels. I'm suspicious. Some authors have set up extensive collaborative writing "farms". James Michener did this. Although he wrote the outline and supervised he had lots of people to assist in things like research, write rough drafts, etc.

I finally found the newest book in the Haven's Rock series by Kelly Armstrong. It's called "First Sign of Danger." More mystery and murder in the Yukon wilderness. I have really liked this series and at the end of this one, there was a note that the next book coming next year will end the series. Ms Armstrong has written a lot of books so I will find some others as I like her writing.

My library has a strange system for waiting list books. I had been on the list for "Hope Rises" by David Baldacci which is book two of a new series. I was still pretty far from the top when I went to the library last week and saw the book on the 2 week books shelf. WTH? I grabbed it and asked the girl at the check out why I had not been notified and the book put on the hold shelf for me. Her reply made no sense. "Those 2 week books are first come first served. The book was not for you." Huh? Why is there a waiting list then?
Anyway it is a really good book and I look forward to more in the series. Lots of twists and turns, murder, conspiracy and action.

my guess its the library's attempt to be Equal Opportunity.
Maybe their thinking is that not everyone has access to a computer so they need the electronically disadvantaged to get a shot at the "good books"

Ok that is an interesting theory. I thought that maybe there was a select number of the best sellers put out on the two weeks shelves and the rest go to the waiting list. Who knows? I got the book early at any rate!

yes, that is exactly how our library system works - a certain number go into the "new" book section and are only borrowable for 7 days, first come first served - the rest go into the line up - it works the same on Libby and they call it Jump the Line or something like that and it will be offered to you to have for 7 days - it is a reward to reading and returning quickly - you still remain in the "line" so I usually go and cancel that Hold when I return the 7 day

I have been reading Jenny Colgan books - she is a Scottish writer and I am loving them, so far The Christmas Book Shop, The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris, The Secret Christmas Library. Her descriptions of the various locations make me feel like I am actually present.
