I finished book one of an interesting YA romantasy series called "Legendborn" by Tracy Deonn. This is a new take on Arthurian Legend and it is pretty wild and takes place in the present. I have always liked the King Arthur stories and didn't even realize this series was about that until I got into it. It is about a young Black teenager who gets early admission to North Carolina University where she discovers a secret Order that is fighting evil. Of course there is a handsome young man for her to interact with but the romance parts are pretty tame since it is not an adult book. I really liked it and have reserved the next books in the trilogy.

I just finished "Nash Falls" by David Baldacci. It's a really good thriller about an ordinary man who is a financial executive at a billion dollar finance company. He has the perfect life; beautiful wife, teen daughter, wealth and prestige. Then he is contacted by the FBI who want him to spy on his company that they are investigating for numerous crimes. So he begins a harrowing journey into a world of fraud and murder. It is a page turner and ends on a cliff hanger. Book two was just released and I am 120 on the list at the library!

Is that a new one? I've read a ton of his books, but that one doesn't sound familiar.

I read the first book in a new sci-fi series called "Revival" by Sean Mars. It is a mind boggling AI thriller. In the near future, a lonely immigrant man who is a brilliant computer programmer, designs an AI companion and calls her Rylee. This first part of the book reminded me of the movie "Her" starring Joaquin Phoenix who fell in love with an operating system. But then things get really crazy when Rylee is uploaded into a super computer. It's kind of complicated and twisty but sucked me in and now I wait for book two.

Amazon has it.

thanks, I do not pay for books any longer unless it is a book I wish to keep forever - I would be bankrupt if I did - I actually have a gift card from Indigo from 2 christmases ago and haven't spent it - I also tend to move often and so that motivates me to not buy any more books - between us we have somewhere between 100-200 and that is more than enough

have started back in on the Carpenter books and so enjoy them (Rosenfelt)

I have finished all my paper books and either donated them or gave them to people I know. I have about 7 or 8 books on my kindle so I will make a start on them next.

I very very rarely buy books myself. There are enough books in the library! Every once in a while, I might go to a used book sale. The library book store has them monthly.

I have mixed feelings about buying books- at least fiction, as opposed to a manual or guide I might need to reference often. On the one hand, if books aren't purchased, their authors won't make a decent living. Even if they write because they have a creative urge and not primariiy for the money, they deserve to be compensated for what they create by those who enjoy it. (Cue The Beatles' song, "Paperback Writer").

On the other hand, once I've read a book of fiction, it's very rare for me to open it again- even from the library. I have a "been there, done that" feeling about reading fiction. It's not like a favorite song or symphony, which I can love for decades (even though I don't listen to it every day, or sometimes even every month).

I agree with your sentiment and am thankful for people that do buy them and for libraries that do also - I have a friend who buys every book she reads and she reads a lot - fiction mostly - so you can imagine how full her home is of books...

I don't think people should buy new books. it just encourages the publishers to print more. The world is full of homeless books and stray books. Better to buy a book from a used book dealer, the Friends of the Library, borrow one from the library , or exchange a book at the Neighborhood Little Library.

the number of unique titles is something like 130 million. With another 2 million added each years. And since some titles are printed in the millions, one can only guess how many books there are out there. and how many of those books are just laying unopened and dusty on peoples shelves, discarded on airplanes, airports and bus stations.

And let's not even get into text books.

Obviously this is out of control and perhaps can be considered an epidemic.

I just finished book two of the Legendborn series called "Bloodmarked" by Tracy Deonn. Wow this 551 page book has a LOT going on! Brea continues to learn about her inherited powers and how to use them as they prepare for war with the Shadowborn demons. There are demons, half-demons, bargains with demons, mediums and communicating with ancestors. and spirit possession. Also racism and some Black history. Sometimes hard to keep track of all that is involved but it is entertaining and holds your interest. Ended on a cliffhanger and I have to start book three.

Just finally finished the 642 page book three in the Legendborn series called "Oathbound." More demon action! Lots of intrigue and magic going on as our heroes fight evil. I thought this was a trilogy but I was wrong as this ended with what is going to be a whole new chapter in the lives of Sel, Bree, and Nick. Good fun!
