Literature What are you currently reading?

Today I finished "The Liar" by Nora Roberts. This one was published in 2015 and is a bit longer than her usual mystery/romances at 500 pages. It's about a young woman who finds out her husband had lied to her throughout their relationship after he dies in an accident. She is left with over 1 million dollars in debt and a 3 year old daughter. It's a good read. I liked the character development and the twisty crime thriller part. Of course there was a predicable romance.

I have started Nora Robert's Seven Rings which is the third in the trilogy, happy it finally arrived. I am also reading Stephen King's 'Never Flinch' (in the bathroom lol).

I read "Windigo Island" by William Kent Krueger. This is another in the Cork O'Connor series. It was about the trafficking of young Native American girls. It was a good thriller. I like this series quite a lot though I am reading them randomly not in order, but they work as stand alones just fine. There is always a bit of NA history and culture in these books.

I read John Grisham's latest book called "The Widow." It is the story of a small town lawyer who does mostly bankruptcy cases and other non-criminal issues. He's struggling with a failing marriage, slow business, and a gambling problem. When an elderly widow comes to him asking him to write her a new will claiming to be very wealthy, he thinks things may be looking up. But everything starts going downhill when one of her stepsons comes to town and beats up her old lawyer. This starts out kind of slow but has some humor so I hoped for the best. The last half of the book gets much better and there is a twist. Not one of Grisham's best but still an entertaining read.

I got the book Remarkably Bright Creatures on audio. Sounds like a book I'd like to read but I can't tolerate the narration! Every single voice just grates on my nerves
I need a good audio book. Last one I really liked was Where the crawdads sing.

I just finished the first one, the second one is for a book group and I’m not enjoying it at all. The third one The Source is a book I’m rereading.

wow, The Black Wolf is a very scary premise, The Grey Wolf was bad enough and this one is even worse considering the rhetoric currently coming from the USA regarding Canada - about 3/4 done and really really hoping for a happyish ending

I am a huge fan of audio books.
the best one I ever read was non-fiction and maybe not something you are interested in - but
The Bomber Mafia. narrated by the author Malcom Gladwell, sort of like a documentary without the video.
WWII air force history

Actually anything by Malcolm Gladwell is great

And Anything by David Sedaris. The Santaland diaries are my favorite. I think the NYT releases them as a podcast each Christmas. Also Me Talk Pretty.

C. J. Archer does historical fiction mysteries (a lot of them are also included some supernatural elements) . They are all for free on Hoopla. I love the narrator. Her latest is the Cleopatra Fox series.

I also like the Penric and Desmodomona series. most of them can be found on Hoopla. They are short - like Novellas. The narrator is great.
And the Dresden Files. Wizzard PI in present day Chicago. Another great narrator.

I also really like the ones that are called Full Cast Audio Dramas. They are like the old radio shows before TV. Like a play but you listen to it.
A lot of these are also published as podcasts. Deadly Manners is really good, starring Kristen Bell.
Some of Tamora Pierce's fantasies, that are YA have been done as audio dramas.
And for those who are fans of Orphan Black, there is the Orphan Black Next Chapter, starring Tatiana Maslany.

This is a good list of audio books.

I discovered a new lawyer series when browsing through new books at the library. I read "The Right to Remain" by James Grippando. I like books set in Florida and the library puts a label on the spines indicating Florida which is why I picked this book. The series features a criminal defense lawyer in Miami. This was really good and twisty. Jack Swytech is defending a murder suspect who decides to take the advice to "plead the Fifth" and the right to remain silent to an incredible level and refuses to speak at all, even to his lawyer. Really liked this book and will find more in this series.

I'm rereading Wuthering Heights as I saw the trailer for the new film at the cinema. I don't remember it being so dark and horrible with all the abuse! I read it at college when I was about 16 years old, but can't remember what I though about it back then. I read there was a chapter with animal cruelty and I just googled and realised I'm at the exact chapter so I'm going to stop reading it right now. I know people mistakenly call it a romantic book because of the film adaptations.

I read another William Kent Kroeger Cork O'Conner book called "Vermillion Drift." This is an older one published in 2010. Old bodies are discovered in an old iron mine and a cold case joins a current missing person case. Another good mystery in the iron mining country of far northern Minnesota. I really like these books.

Picked up another new book just browsing through the new books section called "No One Would Do What the Lamberts Have Done" by Sophie Hannah. This is the first book of hers I have read though she has a lot. This is a very unusual mystery with several perspectives and many twists. A dog is accused of biting a neighbor and the dog's "mom' (who treats him like one of her own children) freaks out with paranoia that the cops are going to take him and put him down so they go on the run. Things get crazy. Unusual story keeps you wondering what is going on. I may look for another book by Ms Hannah and see if it is as weird. LOL

Today I read "Key of Light" which is book one in "The Key Trilogy" by Nora Roberts. This is an older book published in 2003 so the little bit of tech in the book is outdated but it doesn't matter in a romantasy. This is a really fun story about 3 young women who are drawn into a quest to save the souls of 3 look-a-like women in a magic land. Of course there are handsome men and romance. It is a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the next book for the new quest.

I received this book yesterday and have started it - I am enjoying it so far. It's looooonnngggg.

I did like it however did not know it was part one of a trilogy....grrrr - I don't usually like to read trilogies until they are all published. I have the second one on Hold and third is not out as yet.
