US US politics 2025

No protests in Ohio had violent leftists, but one maga supporter had to be wrestled to the ground till police came. He was charged on several accounts not even related to the protest . Another protester was hit by a car that fled the scene

A short, but to the point video about SNAP benefits.

The work requirement galls me. I am fortunate enough not to have needed SNAP benefits when I got laid off at age 58, but had I needed them, I wouldn't have qualified because I couldn't even find part-time work for months, let alone a full-time job. They require people to work, but you have companies laying off people by the thousands and not hiring because of greed. This country is such a mess, and the leadership (I use that word loosely) is just plain cruel. Not taking care of those in need -- young, old and in between -- is criminal.

Belle (and Beau before her), and their whole team does a fantastic job of explaining civics.
Food assistance was created as much for farmers incomes as for people in need

I'm really wondering- what will happen to all the soybeans slotted for China? 🤔

Countries that slide from democracy toward autocracy tend to follow similar patterns. To measure what is happening in the United States, the Times editorial board has compiled a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion, with help from scholars who have studied this phenomenon. The sobering reality is that the United States has regressed, to different degrees, on all 12.

Here are the 12:

Free speech
Persecute political opponents
Bypass legislature
Use military for domestic control
Defy the courts
Declare national emergency
Vilify marginalized groups
Control information and the news media
Try to take over Universities
Create a cult of personality
Use power for personal profit
Manipulates the law

I like this plan! I wish/hope enough people put aside their reliance on convenience living to make a difference. It's a tall order coming during the holiday shopping season, and with people already squeezed economically, shopping local can be more expensive. But a week of no Amazon & Co. by millions would send a huge message. And maybe people would realize just how much power they can wield with their wallets.

we have proven the power of the boycott in Canada and so it would be really nice to see our American friends do the same for themselves - everyone, all over the world had fallen into complacency when it comes to democracy and are now starting to wake up and take action

Trump seems to be be getting even worse, the way he is responding questions to journalists asking normal questions by responding angrily with thinks like "you are an awful person". I don't why he still keeps having them on the white house or the plane or whatever. I honestly think he would put them in jail or throw them out of the plane if he was sure he would get away with it.

And now responding to Democrats saying military shouldn't obey illegal orders by saying that people who say that should be killed for treason.

It's just another reminder that you can't just ignore this and hope it goes away. The more you do the more power he gets and the more he pushes the boundaries.

If Trump was in charge of Venezuela or Russia or China the opposition politicians and media would already be in jail or dead.

At least his power seems to have waned a bit this week, when Republicans opposed him and made him agree to release the Epstein files. The way Trump has handle this whole affair makes me question my previous guess that Trump never had sex with girls (i.e. underage girls). Everyone knows he had contact with Epstein, and he is on record saying Epstein likes them young so what else is there to hide? If he never had sex with an underage girl (or perhaps we should call that rape by default) why was he opposing this? Why did he let it get so under his skin?
