The Weather.

They are starting to hype up another potential snowstorm but I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch.

"A major winter storm is on track to bring blizzard or blizzard-like conditions to the shoreline and parts of eastern Connecticut! Heavy snow falling at rates of 1 to 3” per hour combined with strong northeast winds gusting 50 to 60mph+ will lead to blowing and drifting snow, near-zero visibility, and dangerous travel at times. Those strong winds will also create significant snow drifts, so even if you “only” see around 10” of snowfall, drifting will still be notable and could lead to much higher amounts in localized areas.

Latest guidance shows the core of 1 to 2 feet of snow very close by, with some areas near or above the two-foot mark just offshore and to our south and east. With the storm still about 72 hours away, the small track shifts we’ve talked about all winter could bring those higher totals into Connecticut. This has the potential to become a historic storm if the track trends even a bit closer!"

Wasn't this initially a miss, lol? My mom in Charlestown is saying they are looking at more than a foot of snow Sunday/Monday. I don't like the blizzard stuff. Too windy.

Yes it was initially not supposed to be a big deal at all. I can't believe it changed this quickly and southern Connecticut weather is on board as well which surprised me. Usually they wait a little bit longer. Still, anything can happen. It could totally be a bust last minute.

I just saw that a little while ago. Yeah, it's still a couple of days away, so we'll see. I'm also worried about the wind if they are talking blizzard. That's not good for power outages either.

Different meteorologists' predictions...not that far off from each other. Looks like we're definitely getting something.

All joking aside, I'm a little nervous about this whole "blizzard" thing. I really don't want anyone being without power for days. The longest I've ever been without was 2 1/2 days but there were other areas in town that were without it for 10 days. I can't even imagine. We have a generator, but it's going to be an issue getting it to the back of the house where it gets plugged in if we have a foot or more of snow. Plus there's still several inches from the last snowstorm that we had a few weeks ago.

Whatever who's being a pesthappens, we will just have to make do. I'm pretty good at roughing it… It's more doing without TV and phone that upsets me lol. Hopefully it won't be that bad. I think I heard a few of the weather people say there is a chance it could be a fluffier or dry snow if conditions are just right, instead of the heavy wet stuff that is more likely to bring down trees/branches/powerlines. Fingers crossed for that.

I did get a notice from the electric company preparing us for the worst.

I am most concerned about the power going out, pipes freezing, etc., not to mention the two huge trees that could take out power lines and poles on my street. There are two massive pine trees in my neighbor's yard, and they are so close to my house/property line. I've worried about them since I moved here, but huge trees are everywhere in my town, lol. I'm hoping the wind isn't as bad as they are saying.

SCW doesn't usually predict more snow than the hype-filled TV news stations, so this storm has me a bit worried, though he mentioned the CT River Valley maybe getting the low end of the totals. That would be fine by me. My town is considered part of the Valley, though we aren't on the river, say, like Hartford, which is about 10 miles from me. So we'll see.

There is a sliver of hope, however small, for anyone who is tired of the snow...it's not impossible for this to fizzle out. I've seen it happen several times over the last 10 years or so... warnings and certainty that a storm is coming, and then nothing.

12:45pm update

There is an interesting split on the guidance with the global models today cutting back on the amount of moisture that gets pushed into CT, while the high resolution models continue with aggressive solutions. I mention it here because I know some are interested, and while it’s a caution flag our forecast is not changing. We weigh high resolution models a little more now with the onset coming in just a few hours, and truthfully this close we’re in “chips fall” mode. Sometimes you risk information overload. The blizzard is still coming.

WOW, yes, them and NYC are going to get slammed. This is a crazy storm. I keep getting alerts from the power company about outages and how long it will take them to respond if things go south. Kind of wish this storm would go right out to sea, lol.

Same with the electric company alerts… They're saying it can take 3 to 5 days to restore power if it goes out.
