I'm curious about the vegan community's view on salt.

How much? Not at all? What type? Necessary evil? etc etc.

Personally I use a very small amount of salt daily, usually in my salads, less than a 1/3 of a teaspoon. Either Himalayan pink salt or a non-iodized kosher sea salt. I understand it is important, and the daily limit should be at maximum about 1500mg of sodium, and that salt is made up of both sodium and chloride. The conflict in my mind still comes from one of my first experiences with raw/vegan dieting when a former partner introduced me to the lifestyle and insisted all added salts and sugars should be cut out completely. And I did exactly that for many months, no salt whatsoever, and didn't feel any negative health effects.

So, what say you all?
