Yes, I know what you mean. I think expensive oil is not great for the poor, but there are many positives that come from it and not just EVs or another reason to blame Republicans but also I think expensive oil is necessary to actually get people to live more sustainable lives e.g. walking and taking public transport more rather than drive a pick-up truck everywhere. Also it can potentially help veganism if people replace meat with cheap protein like lentils.
It makes me wonder whether deliberately making oil expensive is a good thing to do e.g. if there is an oil or natural gas reservoir found, rubbish or water can be pumped in there to sabotage it. Supposedly the Iranians may be doing this with the South Pars gas fields. This would create a de facto carbon tax that can accelerate degrowth.
