So today a family member asked why can't I buy dairy and drink milk if it's not possible to get my usual oat milk.

I said yes I used to drink dairy milk but I've changed and choose vegan. I told them I refuse to support the dairy industry and that milk has hormones and antibiotics in.

I was told that it won't kill me to drink milk. I said i know but i don't want to. That I'd rather drink my coffee black.

It was hard for them to understand how non negotiable I was but they let me buy the oat milk instead.

Well done, I think it is with families that one gets personal criticism but also somewhere where one is listened to. I have had similar conversations regarding toiletries with animal fluids in that may or may not cause cancer, the issue is that animals are killed and used unnecessarily. Actually my family has benefited I think from new brands and have become more tolerant to the idea for which is positive and for which I am thankful.

This reminds me of when I went to an UrgentCare for dermatitis around my eyes and the dr was recommending me facial cleansers. I told her I was vegan so I used Dr. Bronner’s soap bars because they are all purpose and she recommended Cetaphil and CeraVe…

It really falls on deaf ears when you tell someone you don’t consume or use a certain product.

To be far, unless a physician is known to promote plant based treatments they're not going to know how to differentiate between traditional methods and those that are vegan.
Have you gone without using Dr Bronners? When I first went vegan I used their soaps as well as coconut oil. I found coconut oil really messed up my skin--red, itchy. First I stopped the oil, then Bronners.

My go to for most any skin problem is ground oats mixed with tea tree oil and a neutral oil or skin cream, or aloe. Tea tree is fabulous

The doctor was actually recommending that you shouldn't use soap for cleaning your face. As soap is alkaline it strips the skin of it's natural oils which act as a shield. Soap is an irritant for sensitive skin.
There are many cleansers that are soap free, vegan and have the leaping bunny label or cruelty free.

We are off topic here! :)

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to derail the conversation 😭
