News Plant Based/Vegan

@shyvas The above three articles you linked to are tempting, interesting, and disturbing (respectively)...

Vegan cakes?... Just what I DON'T need. I have more of a sweet tooth now than I did as a child, but the dairy and/or egg in most unhealthy (for me) baked goods gives me an added incentive to avoid them. (I have to admit that the possibility of developing Type 2 Diabetes is the major motive.)

The mushroom latte product details mention "72+ trace minerals"... I didn't know we needed that many! (Maybe I'm mis-understanding them, and some of the minerals are alternate/duplicate sources of trace elements we need. ) I had read about the production of one type of coffee involving civets... HOW did anyone even think of doing such a thing in the first place??!!

Vegan cakes are very popular and many people enjoy a slice, either as dessert or for a special occasion. There's nothing wrong with eating cake as a special treat. Food shouldn't be restrictive and it's part of the many pleasures of living.

I suppose so. The thing is, the grocery store I usually go to has a ridiculously good on-site bakery, and there is also a rather well-known local bakery chain in my area (also very good- their chocolate chip cookies are iconic). Over the years, I sort of gradually developed a pie/cookie/donut/cinnamon-bun habit. About 4 years ago, I was found to be pre-diabetic, so I cut back on foods high in empty calories. It solved the problem: my HbA1c levels have been back to normal for the past 2 years. I still enjoy my food and don't obsess about it, but I do want to stay healthy, even if I did overcompensate curbing my sweet tooth.

Do you like dates? I've found many great plant based desserts that use them- just blended dates, no sugar and in most cases no or little oil
Like these brownies-I mean they're not "brownies", which I've never found vegan that I liked
