  1. Vegan newbie
I try not to eat out much but sometimes I find myself tire or in a hotel and I will order an impossible whopper from burger king or something. I never understood why the sandwich COMES WITH MAYO AND CHEESE like what even is the ******* point of the impossible burger then???I just saw today that starbucks has an "impossible breakfast sandwich," which has the impossibe brand sausages, an EGG and CHEESE. there isn't anything impossible about that. I mean, they could at least have damn vegan cheese if they are going to offers something like tht. at least with Burger King, I have the option of lettuce, tomato onions, ketchup etc. but Starbucks is just trying to selll a vegan product to seem like they give a **** I guess....it's annoying, the cognitive dissonance jumping jacks here aren't adding up.

It is frustrating. I had the Starbucks impossible breakfast sandwich several years ago and told them to hold the cheese and egg...only to find out, after the fact, that the bun they put it on isn't vegan either. 🤦🏻‍♀️

A l lof these restaurant meals are vegetarian not vegan. Points for trying and a step in the right direction.

I've been satisfying my burger cravings at Shake shack. not sure how wide spread they are. Their veggie burger is vegan (if you skip the cheese and tastes better than the Impossible

They have Culver's in Arkansas. I don't whether you are close to one. They have a really good veggie burger. Just make sure to order it without mayo because mayo comes standard.

It is probably my favorite vegan burger.

I'm a huge fan of mainstreaming foods that are plant based. When local restaurants added Impossible and Beyond burgers to their menu I've had many people tell me how much they like, and some specifically prefer the sausages to meat based. As long as the menu is clear about whether the toppings are plant based or not so vegans can decide--and they certainly should offer alternatives. Why aren't there more? When Just Mayo was out people loved it, 7-11 stores replaced their mayo with it, and it won Americas Test Kitchens taste testing (I think it beat out real mayo). It's now gone, with the only alternatives either pricier vegan brands or the equalivant priced Hellmans plant based (which I don't even like!) Making mayo all plant based is super easy and even cheaper than adding eggs--so----where are they?
My take on this, at least for now, is I'd rather see plant based items introduced to the mainstream rather than pushing ethics. I swear I read comments so often on vegan recipes from people admitting they aren't vegan but love and make the recipes, and vegan police come around to beat them up about not being good enough
I'd rather see a plant based restaurant not even use the word vegan but focus on quality and what people like

I have a Shake Shack not far from me, and I think I will see if mine has the veggie burger. I live in the Land of Steady Habits, where "vegan" is frowned upon, so I wouldn't be surprised if my local Shake Shack doesn't have it. I do have the awesome Divine Treasures chocolate shop near me, so that's a great plus. They have vegan soft serve there, too. :)

I just learned there's one near me, but there veg burger has egg, the 'shroom burger has cheese, and they just opened their first overseas franchise in Tel Aviv....so F'em!

To make the Veggie Shack fully vegan, you must explicitly ask to modify your order:
  • Ask for no American cheese
  • Ask for no ShackSauce
  • Ask for no crispy onions
  • Request a Gluten-Free bun or a lettuce wrap (the standard potato bun is not vegan) [1, 2]

Reminds me of this cartoon @Lou !

It's a shame you've got to do all the heavy lifting there for things that, bar the cheese sauce, could be vegan by default :-/

I like lettuce wraps, but not for a burger. Burger Fi (which sadly went out of business in my area) had a Beyond Burger that you could request vegan, and that included the bun. I miss that place as it had great fries, too.
