Hobby Lobby Plan To Defy Obamacare To Cost $1.3 Million Per Day

WASHINGTON -- An attorney for Hobby Lobby Stores said Thursday that the arts and crafts chain plans to defy a federal mandate requiring it to offer employees health coverage that includes access to the morning-after pill, despite risking potential fines of up to $1.3 million per day.
Hobby Lobby and religious book-seller Mardel Inc., which are owned by the same conservative Christian family, are suing to block part of the federal health care law that requires employee health-care plans to provide insurance coverage for the morning-after pill and similar emergency contraception pills.
The companies claim the mandate violates the religious beliefs of their owners. They say the morning-after pill is tantamount to abortion because it can prevent a fertilized egg from becoming implanted in a woman's womb.

I already avoid shopping at Hobby Lobby (as they sell rabbit skins), so they probably won't notice when I boycott them over this.

I was thinking about the rabbit fur as soon as I heard this story on the news. Figured it was just another reason for me to hate the company. I'm not crafty so I don't have any reason to shop there anyways.

Didn't realize that they sell rabbit skins - I will not set foot in there again.

Although I figured they must be a lousy company to work for, since there are ads advertising for manager and assistant manager positions at the local store almost constantly.

I discovered the rabbit skins in my local Hobby Lobby last March. I had a big handful of items I was going to purchase, and walked past an aisle that I guess had leather working tools, and saw them. I think they were $6 each. So little for a life.
I started crying there in the store, put my armload of items down and walked out. I haven't been back since. I don't know if their inventory decisions are made at a local or national level.

Any craft supplies I occasionally need are purchased from Michael's (haven't seen rabbit skins there) or Joanne's. (Joanne's removed rabbit skins and fur from their stores in response to a boycott called by the House Rabbit Society.)

I understand perfectly, RabbitLuvr. Several years ago, on a brief visit back to St. Louis, I went into our favorite Chinese restaurant to pick up some salt and pepper tofu, which they make beautifully and I haven't been able to replicate. I walked in and saw a display case they had added, in which a number of *dressed* ducks were hanging. I almost vomited, because it was as though my guys were hanging there.

I still can't get that picture out of my mind. It's not as though I wasn't aware that Chinese restaurants sell duck, and all restaurants except veg*n ones sell animal flesh of various kinds, but the reaction was/is a visceral one. At least one saves money by eating out less and less, although grocery shopping is unavoidable.

So on a slightly related note, I never understood why Evangelicals were so strongly against abortion. They believe God controls all pregnancies, and like 1 out of 2 pregnancies result in a miscarriage, right? Doesn't that make God the most prolific abortion doctor of all?

Kind of reminds me of that saying they care so much about the unborn UNTIL they are born. Then they don't give a %&*@.

This company is a mess it seems on more level than one. We don't have them in our area so luckily I've never shopped at one.

That's really awesome about Joanne's.

They were under some pretty intense pressure from several rabbit groups, and they were getting a lot of bad publicity on Bunspace and, I think, assorted HRS groups. So they didn't do it out of the goodness of their hearts- but the fact they responded positively to the pressure is enough for me to shop there instead of Hobby Lobby.

Unless the craft supplies I need are baking-related, in which case I go to a locally-owned baking supply store.
